Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva watched a pirated copy of a popular film during a recent flight, the government has confirmed.

Officials said the president's advisers had been responsible for obtaining an illegal copy of the Oscar-nominated film "2 Sons of Francisco".

The president was "saddened" by the revelation, Brazilian media reported.

Lula watched the film during a trip to Moscow in October - well before legal copies hit the market.

The advisers responsible for obtaining the illegal copy had been reprimanded, the government said.

"2 Sons of Francisco", by director Breno Silveira, tells the true story of Brazilian country music singers Zeze and Luciano di Camargo - two brothers who rose from poverty to fame.

It has been the most popular Brazilian production since 1990, and the South American country is hoping to clinch next year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Lula expressed his sadness over the incident since he is friends with the singers featured in the film, said media reports.

Well, I can't blame the guy. It's not your fault, if your not the one downloading and burning them to disk.

The Government are so low on trying to catch out high profile International contacts for a bit of 'No sir, it wasn't me who downloaded it, was him' malarky, they need to slacken off on the piracy trial.

Lol oxygen, I suppose they dared to use piracy, but in this case they failed, miserably.

I watch pirated movies and music DVD's all the time and half of the time you can't tell the difference until that is, you eject the CD/DVD from the drive and see that it's a TDK ;)

Piracy exists everywhere. In my country isn´t different: you can get some pirated DVD's and CD's easy, easy...But the president should take his time to solve the shameful political corruption in the brazilian government, and stop the unnecessary trips around the world! (Os brasileiros sabem do que estou falando... ) :P

Duh.. People inside the government proabably download music and such. I wouldnt be suprised. Now what would be funny is if employees of RIAA got caught. ;)
