Reefa
Each and every day hundreds of millions of people scour their favorite BitTorrent search engines for content to download. But what are all these people looking for? Today we present the BitTorrent Zeitgeist 2013, a list of the 50 most searched for phrases and keywords on one of the most-used public BitTorrent indexes during the past year. During December, all self-respecting search engines produce an overview of the most popular search terms of the past year. These lists give insight into recent trends, and in 2013 Nelson Mandela, Paul Walker and iPhone 5s were the top trending searches on Google. But what about torrent search engines? With billions of searches every year it’s worth taking a look at the most-entered keywords on the dominant file-sharing network. There is no central database of searches available, but Kickass.to, one of the top three torrent sites in terms of visitors, was kind enough to share the most popular search terms of 2013 with us. This list is based on millions of searches and gives an indication of what people were looking for on BitTorrent networks during the last 12 months.Topping the lists this year is YIFY, which refers to the popular movie release group. The group has millions of dedicated followers who use the ‘YIFY’ tag to find its recent releases. The movies World War Z and Iron Man 3 complete the top three. The top 10 contains three other movie title related searches: Man of Steel, Star Trek Into Darkness and Now You See Me. The search term 2013, often used to find recent movies, is listed in sixth place.Traditionally, TV-shows are much sought after on BitTorrent as well, and it’s no different this year. Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Dexter made it into the top 10, followed by The Walking Dead and Suits further down the list.Adult related searches are surprisingly absent among the popular search terms, and the same is true for music and game searches. The only non-video search in the top 50 is Windows 8 in 40th place. Finally, it’s worth mentioning that ITA, a term used to find Italian content and the most searched for keyword in 2011, dropped out of the top 50 entirely. This can be explained by the fact that KickassTorrent was blocked by all Italian Internet providers last year.Below is the full list of the 50 most-entered search phrases on Kickass.to (minus site specific searches). This list will be different for each torrent site, but we assume that the top searches will be popular on other indexes as well.1. yify 2. world war z3. iron man 34. breaking bad5. man of steel6. 20137. game of thrones8. I think you totally miss the point. Its the SPECIFICATIONS that is the problem.YIFI releases, just like aXXo back then are for public site hopping newbies who are conscious about filesize. The quality of the encodes are inferior to other p2p or scene groups. Mention YIFI on any respectable private tracker and you will be laughed out of the place. I agree with your comments about YIFY's quality, but I disagree with you saying that only n00bs download it. I do so sometimes too, and for very good reason: http://www.nsaneforums.com/topic/198500-how-yify-torrents-is-battling-the-internet-censors/?p=702892
calguyhunk
What is yify? :huh:It's one of the biggest and most loved p2p release groups on the planet. They release high quality torrents (720p and 1080p) of films that you can D/L from sites like The Pirate Bay. DVD rips and Blue Ray rips only. No Cam/TS etc. Their specialty is that their file sizes are typically a third or a quarter of that of the other release groups for the same resolution. To do that, they encode with lower bit-rates, which a lot of "connoisseurs" dislike. But they're amazing for 99% of the average downloaders. :yes:You can go to their own website Yify-torrents.com to check out more. All their torrents are very heavily seeded, thereby ensuring high speeds. :DIts a shit p2p release/group name who release shit quality, low bitrate re-encoded releases for n00bs...... You're right about the "conscious about filesize" part. They release 720p movies at 450-950MB files depending on the length of the movie. You don't have to be a "public site hopping newbie" to D/L that. I almost exclusively D/L Yify, Pristine, Shaanig, Junoon etc. because I have a limited 2Mbps internet and D/L'ing a 5GB 1080p video will take me 6 hours. An Yify release takes me only around 50 minutes or so. And it's plenty good for my 18.5" 1360x768 screen. They're doing a public service free of charge. If you guys can't be thankful, at least don't be disrespectful, 'cuz they don't owe anybody anything. It's not like they're charging you money for amazing quality and then selling you cheap $hit! They're not promising you anything, and it's completely free! :yes:Also, the quality is very good for PC screens and regular sized TV screens as well, unless you're really into Blue Ray videos and 5.1 channel audio or you've just bought a 4K UHD TV. In any case, you know what you're getting into when you're D/L'ing Yify. If you don't like 'em, don't D/L their releases. But they have a huge following in people like me us. Congrats on your "private trackers" and unlimited internet, but give me Yify any day :mad2:Bitching about Hondas and Toyotas just 'cuz you can afford Jags and Rollers makes you an inconsiderate, spoilt and entitled brat. Shopping at M&S doesn't give you the right to diss people who shop at Primark! They have their target clientele. Loaded M&S aficionados don't fall in that category. Similarly, Yify and groups like them don't target 100Mbps unlimited broadband users in Japan and Europe. It's main target are people in the rest of the world where the broadband infrastructure is not as strong. And thank God for them, otherwise we'd be stuck with 480p downloads. :angry:I see this all the time with people b!tching about low end mobile phones as well. Not everybody can afford a $1000 iPhone 5S or an $800 Note 3 dammit! Certainly not in Asia, Africa, South America or Eastern Europe! So yes, we'll take our cheap Samsungs and congrats to all of you on your new iCrap or big@ss phablets!@GRiM! just re-encode a Blu-Ray Movie to Yify's specification, upload it for us and then we'll see what you are upto! ;)Thank you for saying that. The sense of entitlement is amazing here. So is the lack of respect of people who don't have the same resources as you do for one reason or another! B!tching about free stuff? Seriously? :wtf:P.S. - For anybody interested - there is a comparatively new(?) group called StylishSalh, who constantly have around 500MB 720p files. I downloaded their 'Insidious: Chapter2' BRrip release yesterday. It's only 498 MB compared to Yify's 812. Both video and audio quality seems great to me. As an added bonus, it's got perfect subs, something that you can't accuse Yify of LOL! :PThey don't even release 1080p torrents from what I can tell, and their 480p releases are as tiny as ~300MB. I think I've found my new favorite, but I need a few more downloads before I give them the ultimate 'new Yify' certificate ;) Edited December 30, 2013 by calguyhunk
