Reefa
The famous media player Winamp was scheduled to be discontinued on December 20, 2013, as AOL has decided to go on without the application it bought from Nullsoft in late '90s. Even though the application was set to go dark approximately one week ago, Winamp is still up for grabs today, December 27, which is an indication that something is obviously happening behind the closed doors.According to some previous reports, AOL is currently involved in some advanced talks with a potential buyer, which means that the media player might after all be saved and live on despite the parent company's plans to get rid of it.What's more, some people familiar with the matter hinted that Redmond tech giant Microsoft itself could be interested in taking over Winamp, even though it's hard to understand how exactly such an app would fit in its app portfolio. Microsoft already has Windows Media Player as the default music and video player for users of its operating system and continues to invest millions of dollars in Xbox Music, an app available on multiple platforms, including Windows 8.Source:http://news.softpedia.com/news/Winamp-Still-Available-for-Download-Despite-Scheduled-Retirement-412007.shtml

John_Anonymous_Doe
I have never liked Winamp so much, it's like VLC in my honest opinion, I prefer iTunes and MPC-HC.

janedoe
iTunes?? Are you serious??? :wtf:I know, right?! It's his personal choice obviously, but only masochists IMO like iTunes. :D I consider it easily one of the worst (if not the worst) Windows programs ever coded. janedoe
They must still be busy negotiating with buyers but there's no news of what's going on. Still, at the very least they should have the sense to remove the following outdated message from their download page: Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release. Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years. Edited December 30, 2013 by janedoe

janedoe
if MS to biu Winamp they will have to kill one of them either their windows media player or winamp - we cannot have bothNot necessarily. Winamp is already running on ARM Android devices, so they can make it available for Windows RT as well which doesn't include WMP.
