FukenGruven
Why to use oem activation, when you can do it with DAZ Loader.Do you know the difference?- i used to use Loaders/activators when i first started in the Warez Scene..Why i use OEM?- no additional services- no additional tasks- no foreign files- clean, minimalthis is also why i use VMware.. it allows me to activate all my Guests w/OEM activations..=============================================UPDATE: - So far.. im really digging Windows 8.. - it truly takes time and an open mind to grasp Windows 8.. - they've truly redesigned everything.. but once you accept that fact and try to learn the new set up.. it's very responsive..- the Start Screen.. it's pretty cool. . all of my PortableApps show up.. and i can pin, etc..- performance & appearance wise.. it blows Windows 7 out of the water..i can't believe im saying this.. :)- back to customizing ... FYI: Alt + F4 = easy way to shut down, restart, log on/off .. Edited December 25, 2013 by FukenGruven

FukenGruven
@Fuken Gruven = (8>IS<GREAT) :showoff:yep.. especially if you know how to disable the services, task scheduler, and other unecessary features.Tip: Windows System Image Backup is hidden.. - Control Panel > search for "File" > File History > and it's at the bottom. It can also backup to 3TB drives because of UEFI :)Note: if you use TrashReg > don't delete an empty CLSID key that start with "A", it's required for Windows Search.=============================================EDIT:- Unbelievably.. WEI, (Windows Performance Index), has been removed from 8.1! i thought it wasn't available inHome Editions.- also.. if you enable LEGACY, which disables SecureBoot, in the BIOS.. you have to install a hotfix otherwise the watermark appears. jackieo
@ FukenGruven You Rock, Bro~OHHH....MYYY.....GODDDDD ..you used some new words there, and im baffled beyond comprehension, and I am rushing to catch up!to start with, that link you gave for SLIC TOOLKIT is dead, could you upload it to Mediafire or somewhere? ( thanks bro)Perhaps even, put all the tools you used in one Rar file? That would be very handy so we all dont have to chase down dead links...(again my thanks)I would like to have these tools onhand should the need arise, that i need them, since we are here discussing all of this, i am also saving this thread in a new folder called "Win 8 Stuff" i like to right click on the page, and "Save Page As" (Firefox) which lets me look at saved webpages offline.I am so behind the curve! You just opened up a can of worms for my brain to comprehend my friend,THANK YOU FOR SHARING ALL OF THIS!I had to google...well... Startpage (hehe) a few of those terms I have never seen before ( how do we say "google it" now? "Startpage it" ? )UEFI - WOWW ... Phoenix Bios is dead? and Activation relies on this new stuff? WOW!SLIC- Not sure yet...im still in the learning phase...not having to use this stuff...yet! :)FORGE ON, BRAVE SOULS! :showoff: Edited December 26, 2013 by jackieo
tezza
@Fukendisconnect Internet if you plan to reformat, reinstall Windows 8.. this way you're not forced to use an Online account as your Local account. No need to disconnect internet in 8/8.1 to use local account.Unbelievably.. WEI, (Windows Performance Index), has been removed from 8.1! i thought it wasn't available inHome Editions. Not removed fully , winsat formal still works, also a couple of portable tools are available if you want the win7 look WEI :)

So i went to HP's website.. downloaded the latest BIOS and flashed w/it..checked w/SLIC Toolkit and it showed SLIC 2.1 :) Edited December 26, 2013 by FukenGruven

My next PC will either be a laptop or i might just build another desktop box,I love the portability and power of laptops these days, and I rarely use my desktop machine anymore, other than to burn dvd's, since the dvd laser in my laptop died. 2Old2Remember
I know i was firm in my hatred for Windows 8.But just got an HP Pavilion w/Windows 8.I was going to reformat w/Windows 7 but after researching the specs.I've concluded Windows 8 is better for Quad Core. Thus, im making the jump to Windows 8.1.I backed up the activation, saved the OEM key, and now up and running.However.. i would appreciate any tips from Windows 8 users. It is a pain to navigate, but 8.1 atleast added a start button. (not menu).WRonce .. be patient.. i was in the middle of your project.i'll continue development once im settled in.Happy Holidays Everyone :)Welcome to Windows 8.1 man. If you miss the old start menu, StartIsBack+ is your goToGuy.(will not even know its an addon program till u go to addRemove programs. no services, no processes its like it belongs there) :) Happy Holidays to you too. Oh and if you find that you cannot end a process, eg. utorrent, just un-share any internet connection that you are sharing and restart. Solves that problem just for fyi. :)) Edited January 3, 2014 by 2Old2Remember
FukenGruven
First thing i would do is go to "Winareo.com" and get some of the apps they have for modding it... I use "Win+R Alias Manager" this will alow you to make custom "Run" shortcuts for everthing ^^ excellent advice.. as it is.. im manually running Run more often.. thank you Welcome to Windows 8.1 man. :)) TY.. i'll keep that in mind.. Im doing as n0_risk! mentioned. no 3rd party tools.. i truly hate installations.. infact.. i uninstalled all Store Apps, and disabled the service. i will eventually get used to the Start Screen :) and is rather simple to create hotkeys for shortcuts on the Start Screen.. plus.. it looks cool :P Feels new because of Start Screen and Ribbon, took me some days and it wasn't a problem anymore, only Ribbon still feels a bit misplaced and bloated, i will never like it. I don't have any customizations, no additional themes, no replaced icons or explorer stuff, only StartIsBack and a custom QuickStart menu for fast navigation (and a custom wallpaper). ;) Excellent advice.. i took your advice.. and went all natural :) Your right about Explorer.. where is "New Folder"??? i have to right-click ? Other than that and Libraries.. no big deal.. i simply link my external HD to the folders.. same as Libraries.. the ribbon.. i haven't had the need to explore yet..
