Reefa
The Motion Picture Association’s “Piracy it’s a crime” video is without doubt the most iconic anti-piracy PSA ever made. The video includes the classic line “you wouldn’t download a car,” but within a decade Porsche is proving the movie industry wrong. The exclusive car manufacturer is offering freely downloadable blueprints of its Cayman S model, and evidence of the first printed cars is now surfacing left and right.During the years to come 3D printing is expected to cause a small revolution, as people will be able to download and print pretty much everything imaginable. While many manufacturers are skeptical about this threatening development, Porsche is cleverly using it for a promotional campaign, dispelling the MPAA’s famous “you wouldn’t download a car” mantra. The car company is offering 3D blueprints for its Cayman S model, which can be downloaded for free through Porsche’s official site. This allows anyone to print a copy of the car in real size or as a miniature.“A dream can only come true, if you give it a shape. Why not with your 3D printer? We offer you the Cayman S as 3D printing data. Feel free to get creative,” Porsche writes. “Create, print and colorize your personal Cayman S. We would love to see the results.”Please Download This Car…The blueprints are limited to the exterior of the car, but it’s a nice gesture nonetheless, and one that’s being well received by 3D print fanatics around the globe. On Twitter several people are showing off their own versions of the car using the hashtag 3DCayman. Shown below is an overview of the most recent creations of cars printed in various sizes and colors.Cayman S Copies Whether Porsche’s move has been inspired by the iconic anti-piracy PSA will remain unknown. However, it is clear that the people at the Motion Picture Association are not the most visionary out there.Interestingly, Hollywood has also recently come to the realization that allowing people to download something for free can actually be a good thing.Last week Microsoft and Warner Bros. teamed up to release a 3D blueprint of the “Key to Erebor” for the movie premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Typically, however, these blueprints were not offered without a bunch of unnecessary restrictions.Source:http://torrentfreak.com/porsche-proves-mpaa-wrong-wants-you-to-download-a-car-131217/ Edited December 17, 2013 by F3dupsk1Nup

Bhanche
Let's see how happy Porshce gets when it is possible to print fully working copys of their cars for a fraction of what they would cost at a dealership. They are only doing this because they think that it will never be possible...we'll see what the future brings :)
nIGHT
3D plastic printing has been there for some time now.3D printed plastic gun that can actually fires successive live ammunition is the most famous sample for the 3D plastic printing.3D Metal printing has also been showing promising potential application. But you won't metal print a whole car parts! That is insane. It could find use on simple parts like doors, mirror casing, sound box casing (though most of it is made of wood) and holders and the likes but not its engine, camshaft, suspension, clutches parts and the likes. This free downloadable car model just made it more inspiring to develop new design on car models and improve its aerodynamicsThis helps us to visualize how our cars look on colors and designs before actually painting it on the real product itself. This will not be a threat to manufacturers. Edited December 20, 2013 by nIGHT

Lamborghini's exterior is mostly made out of carbon fiber and some of the McLaren's engine pieces are fitted in by cooling them in liquid nitrogen. (a technique used by a few other high performance brands)... IF you can make that kind of things in your garage i'd be impressed and i would encourage you to make a knockoff of some of those cars... but sadly, i doubt many would have the means to do so.
