rds084
Ironically the svchost.exe issue is fixed in the latest windows update (I solved it that way).I do agree though that XP feels slower over the years.I wish someone runs a comparison test between different versions, ie: MSDN SP3 ISO vs unofficial ISO with integrated updates to see if the OS got sabotaged by MS itself. janedoe
I don't think they're deliberately sabotaging XP, just dragging their feet a little when it comes to patching it in general. That this particular problem is one that will make a new version of Windows seem even faster in comparison is just a happy accident. Well they did improve the update mechanism a lot in newer versions of Windows. I prefer the integrated update in Win7 any day over XP's IE-based mechanism. The problem here is just that XP is too old, and is really showing its age here with its lengthy reject lists. I hope they solve this issue before April and also make available one final official version on MSDN and elsewhere with all the post-SP3 updates slipstreamed. speedpedal
Performs perfectly all day - kept off internet. Intend running it until no other options exist. No replies please - subject is moot point.
LeeSmithG
Quite funny, in 20 years time users probably 33% will still be on XP.There are still users on 95 and 98 and 98 second edition and 2000I know someone still using 98 as I sold them my second edition updates CD.We are humans not Dogs, M$ seem to think we are puppy Dogs that want to learn new tricks.I am happy with everything 7 professional has to offer.I do have 8, I was going to start using it, however, it's not like 7.I want like 7 with new features which don't stop my normal learned usage.7 is like XP on steroids. janedoe
7 is like XP on steroids.Funny how people keep saying this, but IMO it is only 50% true. The list of XP features MS removed in Vista and Win7 is a mile long, and compared to XP Windows Explorer in Win7 is complete rubbish with so many bugs and much less in terms of features. That said, there is no doubt Win7 is stable as a rock and the other 50% is a huge improvement over XP.As for your puppy dogs comment, they're doing what they do best to attempt to generate profits. You can stay exactly where you are and continue using the OS you love, so why care what they do with Win8? In any case if the Start Menu returns and if Metro is made optional I'm betting most legit users who planned to move to Win7 eventually will move on to Win8 instead. For a Metro hater, Win8 without it any day trumps Win7 since it offers other improvements worth having.
