Confirmed - Coming in April 2014: BUILD 2014

When you think about all the rumors about Windows Phone 8.1, the "Threshold" wave of products, and the expected changes we'll be seeing in Windows next year, the just-announced date for the developer focused BUILD 2014 conference becomes all the more exciting: It's happening in April 2014, earlier in the year than ever before. And that's great news.

Previous to last year's BUILD, which was in June, BUILD was held in October and was aligned with important Windows milestones. This coming April rendition of BUILD suggests that Microsoft is serious about its rapid release cycle promises, and that we'll have some kind of developer release(s)—Windows, Windows Phone, Xbox One, whatever—by that time.

In the Microsoft blog post announcing this show today, Microsoft corporate vice president Steve Guggenheimer wrote that the show would focus on what's next for Windows, Windows Phone, Windows Azure, Windows Server, Visual Studio and much more. But I find it interesting that he mentions Xbox One in the post as well. I bet that's part of the "and much more" bit.

Anyway, BUILD 2014 is happening April 2-4, 2014 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. If you're interested in attending as a developer, you'll be able to register starting at 9 am PT on January 14, 2014 at http://www.buildwindows.com/. You'll want to be quick as this show sells out immediately.

Does anyone know whether the early bird and academic pricing will be the same as for 2013? Can't wait to see what awesome swag they hand out this time! :D

That's like saying Miley Cyrus has 410+ million fans because her Wrecking Ball video has that many views on YouTube.

No i'm simply showing how popular that particular Win8.1 topic is. A very large number of nsane members use Win8.1 and are looking forward to the next release, not everybody hates it.

Just in general , after all this time it has become really boring to see the same type of comments posted over and over again in every Win8.1 topic. If you do not like Win8.1 thats absolutely fine , your choice, but is there really any need to continuously repeat yourselves, get over it, and honestly who cares if you do not like it :D

I understand what you were trying to say, but I hope you understood what I was trying to say as well; a lot of those views are from people that dislike/hate it, which skews the statistics (ie popular does not equal well liked).

Umm, have to disagree with you on that. Just like you find comments of dislike boring, so can people find comments of praise boring as well. It works both ways, and until a thread is set up only for Win8 supporters/opposers, everyone can post whatever they want, whether we like it or not.

rant

To give you a little example, people that post things like "but you can make Win8 look just like Win7 with third party tools" while defending it have gone past boring me and are now just pissing me off.

Except of course the opposers are relentless and spam every thread even remotely connected to Windows or MS, whereas I haven't seen any of the supporters (on this forum at least) make it their life's mission to plug the latest version everywhere. Anyway, how about a détente between the two camps? Let the opposers and supporters both agree to stop whining about/praising WinXP and Win8 both and then we can all focus on something new for a change. Sound good to everyone? :)

Getting back to the subject of this thread (the upcoming conference) before it was derailed by the Win8 opposers, does anyone know the answer to my query above?

To everyone, this is a forum, just give your opinion on the topic and that's it.

We might not agree on each other but at least we agree to to disagree on each one's opinion.

Thanks Tezza, I had already got the links to both the Twitter feed and mailing list from the official BUILD site. I'll try asking them directly and see what they have to say about pricing.

Of course, and I didn't see anyone fighting above who needed to calm down. As Tezza said it's just that some opinions get really tiresome when repeated again and again and again... Why don't we all give them a rest and focus our energies on something useful for a change, right? :) (Of course, I'm not trying to forcibly stop anyone from voicing their opinions.)
