Microsoft-Plans-to-Hunt-Down-Arrest-Keny

Microsoft has decided to tackle the issue of piracy in Kenya in a more aggressive way, warning that all those who’ll continue to use pirated software would be arrested.

The company has now started sending letters to organizations and individuals who are believed to be running counterfeited software, in an attempt to encourage them to purchase licensed products. After January 15, Microsoft and the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) will start raiding small and medium size companies to determine whether they’ve moved to licensed software or not.

Everyone will be fined or even arrested, Microsoft warns, with the promise that individuals who’ll continue using pirated software will have the same fate.

“Seventy-eight percent of Kenya is pirated, even if you reduce that to five percent, the impact of the economy will be huge, we are losing billions to this and it must now be addressed,” Microsoft Kenya Country Manager Kunie Awosika was quoted as saying by CapitalFM.

More than 200 small and medium size businesses have already received letters to stop using pirated software and buy licenses for Microsoft products, which include Windows and Office. Resellers who are believed to be distributing illegal content are also said to be under investigation.

In order to help Kenyans switch to licensed software, the local Microsoft subsidiary has also launched discount campaigns to make both Windows and Office a bit more affordable.

“During this amnesty we also have 10 to 15 percent of offer on Windows 8, Office 2013 and Office 365 which runs until December 31 2013,” Awosike said.

Piracy has become a serious issue in Kenya, where more than 78 percent of the computers are believed to be running counterfeited software. As a result, Microsoft is now trying to fight piracy the hard way, promising to track down every single person that doesn’t use a valid license for Windows or Office.

So how is Microsoft going to "arrest" these pirates? Pay some thugs and give them AK-47s to storm houses with computers that have pirated windows?

Thugs will be going to the individual computer users homes with violence and demanding moneys with the threats of giving their names and locations to authorities for using pirated copies of windows. Neighbors squealing on neighbors to survive in the lands of poverty.

What a ridiculous joke. If they're impoverished it still doesn't condone stealing. Instead they should do themselves a massive favor and switch to Linux. That way they won't need to pirate firewall or anti-virus or any such security apps and can rest easy.

whats the meaning of this MS! fuck U!

dam.... you...m$....

:D Lol! Why so serious, you guys got pirate relatives in trouble there?
