Windows_Update_Fails_to_Install_November

Microsoft has recently released this month’s Patch Tuesday updates, fixing flaws in Windows, Internet Explorer, and Office for all versions of the operating system.

Users are reporting via Microsoft’s Community forums that Windows Update fails to install November 2013 patches, explaining that they are getting unexpected errors when trying to download them.

“Every time I run Windows Update, either on the desktop or tiled interface, it gives a 80244FFF error. It is able to download and install Windows Defender definition updates,” one user has reported on the forums.

At this point, there’s no official fix available and consumers claim that they have already tried several workarounds with no luck.

“I've tried turning off Windows Defender and firewall, plugging my PC directly into the cable modem, trying Safe Mode (Which doesn't allow Windows Update to run), scanning all my drives for errors, and disconnecting all my hard drives except the boot drive but nothing has worked,” the same user continues.

The easiest solution to this problem is to install all Patch Tuesday updates manually, but this obviously takes more time and doesn’t come in really handy to beginners and less experienced users.

It’s not yet clear whether this is a widespread problem or it’s only happening on a limited number of computers, but we’ve received reports that Windows XP, 7, and 8.1 users are all getting the same or a similar error.

For example, other reports point to an 80070422 error when trying to run Windows Update, again with no workaround solving the issues.

“I've been getting this error message recently and now Windows is incapable of updating. I've done the fix-it and I've followed all the instruction in the Microsoft Help asking me to go into services and checking to make sure the settings are correct,” one bug report reads.

Microsoft is yet to provide more information on these issues, so we’ll update the article when and if get more details on this.

This is terrible advice. If you know what you're doing you can let WU inform you of updates but not automatically install them, giving you the opportunity to first read the description and then deploy after a few days if there are no adverse reports. Not installing any updates at all and leaving your OS unpatched and relying just on third party security software is not an intelligent thing to do.

Sure, it's true, the better solution is: install all updates and come back with Acronis true image ( p. exemple) if a problem comes!!

All users have to make ghost of their system, this it is the best possible advice!!

there is a box im WU options to tell it not to give you drivers *( cant remember which or how they word it) NEVER let WU do drivers get those directly from Realtek.com or your manufacturers website

Win7 x64 updated no problems :)

XP SP3 x86 updated no problems :)

okay googled it this may help http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730606(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_Anchor1

To enable or disable searching Windows Update manually on a single computer

  1. Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.

  2. In the Tasks list, click Advanced System Settings.

  3. On the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Windows Update Driver Settings.

  4. Select Never check for drivers when I connect a device.

  5. Click OK twice, and then close the System dialog box.

For Win7 look at my diagram below ! :)

Yes, i know that!! But it seems that if the KB is installed, i can't install realtek drivers after and the problem is that it delete the drivers!!

And when you disable the drivers search, Windows can find the drivers in "driverstore" folder also!! ;)

BTW: i'm on Win8 Pro x64

ok try this- open device manager and uninstall the drivers for your audio from there and then do CCleaner registry sweep and then try to install your realtek

When? before the update or after?

If after, it's impossible! Realtek fails for each reinstall!

set update to" tell you when updates are ready but do not download and install automatically" select " let me choose the updates" etc.or just turn off automatically updating - you know patch tuesday is ALWAYS the first tuesday of the month :)

do it right now- then try to install realtek AFTER removing drivers from device manager

look in the dlete programs thingy see if audio drivers are there as well
