anuseems
Howtogeek posted 8 reasons why even Microsoft agrees the Windows Desktop is a nightmareLets be honest: The Windows desktop is a mess. Sure, its extremely powerful and has a huge software library, but its not a good experience for average people. Its not even a good experience for geeks, although we tolerate it. Even Microsoft agrees about this. Microsofts Surface tablets with Windows RT dont support any third-party desktop apps. They consider this a feature users cant install malware and other desktop junk, so the system will always be speedy and secure. Malware is Still Common Malware may not affect geeks, but it certainly continues to affect average people. Securing Windows, keeping it secure, and avoiding unsafe programs is a complex process. There are over 50 different file extensions that can contain harmful code to keep track of. Its easy to have theoretical discussions about how malware could infect Mac computers, Android devices, and other systems. But Mac malware is extremely rare, and has generally been caused by problem with the terrible Java plug-in.More at http://www.howtogeek.com/174939/8-reasons-why-even-microsoft-agrees-the-windows-desktop-is-a-nightmare/ Edited November 4, 2013 by anuseems
satviewer2000
This is just a bad comparison, at least as far as malware is concerned.1. Windows runs on 95% of computers, whereas Apple's OS runs on <5%. So one would expect 95% less malware on Apple vs Windows, would one not?2. Most malware is produced in 2nd world countries. But few people in 2nd world countries can afford a Mac. If there are just a handful of people using Macs in these countries, who is going to write the malware?3. Apple is the only one who sells their hardware. So they can control exactly what goes into it. Microsoft is only selling the operating system, not the hardware that runs it. It just would not be possible for a single company to control 95% of computers AND create all the hardware as well.4. If you are a malware author and want to get your malware to as many people as possible, would you target an operating system that is used by 95% of people, or one used by less than 5% of people? Everyone
Paid article full of bullshit, deliberate disinformation and a dose of FUD. I don't think I've ever seen a company so desperate to convince people what's good for them. No M$. I won't use tiles, infact, seeing your crap I'm considering switching to *nix. MidnightDistortions
Too bad Microsoft decides to focus on rolling out new OS's/UI changes rather then some practical investment on just one OS. Windows in general is a nightmare, which is why i am moving to Linux.
janedoe
If Microsoft paid for this they could have certainly done much better. A really poorly-written article indeed and not worth commenting in detail on.
anakin206
So the article is a kind of propaganda in favour of Apple?
