Matsuda
Self-professed biohacker Tim Cannon has become the first human being to have a non-medical computer implanted inside his body. The Circadia 1.0 is about the size of a small smartphone and was implanted in Tim’s forearm without the aid of anesthetic or a licensed doctor. The device is designed to gather biometric data and beam it to a mobile device, making Tim Cannon the first DIY cyborg. The device was conceived and developed by Tim and his colleagues at Grindhouse Wetware. The project is completely open with all the code and designs posted on the Google Code site. Circadia 1.0 is built on top of the Arduino Pro-mini and utilizes wireless charging, which is far preferable to running a USB cable to the implanted device whenever it needs a boost. The Circadia 1.0 isn’t huge in the context of computing devices, but it’s awfully large for something that’s going to be implanted under the skin. The procedure consisted of making an incision in Cannon’s forearm, then separating the skin from the connective tissue below. The Circadia was then inserted into the pocket, and the incision closed up. This was all carried out by a fellow body-modding enthusiast. The first version of the device doesn’t do a whole lot in terms of data collection. It has a temperature probe that flips on every few minutes and transmits the value to an Android device over Bluetooth. The data can be charted over time, and the device can apparently be configured to alert the user if body temperature begins to rise, indicating a fever. A series of LEDs on the Circadia shine through the skin to relay status messages. The team at Grindhouse Wetware claims to have already perfected a pulse sensor that will be integrated with the next version of the Circadia. Presumably that means Cannon will have to go under the knife again.A future version of the device is expected to be made availablein the body-modding community for about $500. spicey
Won't his body react to that device? Like triggering cancer cells or something? Edited November 2, 2013 by spicey
