More-than-Half-of-PC-Users-Worldwide-Run

Microsoft is spending a fortune to make Windows 8.1 a successful product, but Windows 7 continues to hold the leading spot in user popularity surveys across the world.

Statistics provided by market researcher StatCounter for the month of "October" show that Windows 7 not only that is the number one operating system on the market, but it’s also being used by more than 50 percent of consumers worldwide.

Windows 7 has a market share of 51.73 percent, StatCounter claims, while Windows XP comes next with 20.05 percent. As far as Windows 8 is concerned, things are far from encouraging, with Microsoft’s modern platform powering only 7.7 percent of PCs right now.

Mac OS X comes next with 7.01 percent, while Windows Vista lost more points before eventually settling to a 5.31 percent market share.

More people I thought are using XP, thanks for the info

More PCs are running XP than statistics show. Especially businesses and non-profit organizations, because they don't spend money on pointless "upgrades".

Bravo Banned !!

Statistics of this sort cannot be accurate - you are absolutely right:

More PCs are running XP than statistics show. Especially businesses and non-profit organizations, because they don't spend money on pointless "upgrades".

There are also loads of small/medium sized businesses with all their PCs running XP behind a good firewall;

Their owners do not wish to be among the 'counted' and with good reasons.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke - all the party-liners and upgrade addicts simply cannot hear these ideas though...

Absofuckinglutely right. I am a Windows user since 2000. Believe it or not, I am having "some" problems and some headaches with Windows 8.1... :pos:

One more stressful situation and Windows 7 will kick in... :rockon:

This is good for W7 users, hopefully Microsoft will notice that some users won't buy into the W8/8.1 hype. That's all what MS is really doing, using Xp's death to try to promote W8 while XP users are either sticking with XP or moving to W7 instead.

.. if (more likely when) I do migrate to Win 7, hopefully there will be a 'tailored' one, much like an improved Tiny7 version;

does seem like much 'eye-candy' to Win7 (aka.Nero) and all I would like is a streamlined (updatable) version to WinXP. : )

I tried Windows 8.1, and it's not for me. Windows XP still gives me the least amount of trouble, so that's where I'll stay until Microsoft can come up with something better. Microsoft can quit with their scare tactics, because it's only pissing people off.

It can sound really weird, but I used Windows XP 64 bits a long time, and it was a very good OS. Lightning fast and stable. I only ditched it because DX 10 or higher is not supported... <_<

No doubt. Windows XP still "feels" faster to me than any newer version of Windows (and I'm comparing them on modern hardware).

Since only a few games require DX 10 or higher, I am thinking about giving XP 64 bits another chance... B)
