A leak published today suggests the next version of Android – named ‘KitKat’ – will focus on catering for low-end smartphones, while also supporting wearable devices (including that rumored smartwatch) and Google-powered TVs.

The author, ex-WSJ reporter Amir Efrati, suggests that — in addition to tackling Android fragmentation – Google will take “another crack” at NFC and let developers turn devices into Android remote controls. Documents perused by Efrati also suggest there will be support for three new types of sensors — geomagnetic rotation vector, step detector and step counter — and much more.

We’re likely to get our first glimpse of KitKat when the Nexus 5 smartphone is unveiled.
