Matsuda
As I’ve reported to you a couple of days ago, some of the users who migrated to Windows 8.1 experience a small mouse lag in games. While no workaround was available at that time, it turns out that all issues can be fixed by applying a series of changes to the game executable file. As gHacks.net is reporting, the mouse lag was experienced in games not using Raw Input or DirectInput for correctly reading mouse movements, as Microsoft has implemented some modifications in the DPI framework available in Windows 8.1.In order to fix the mouse lag in Windows 8.1, you need to locate the game executable file, right-click it and hit the “Properties” option. Go over to the “Compatibility” tab, check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and select “Windows 8” from the drop-down menu.Additionally, enable the “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings” at the bottom of the screen, hit “Apply” and close the window. That should be it. In case you’re still experiencing mouse lag in games, make sure you also have the latest drivers available for your mouse and all Windows updates are installed.Original Article
banned
Okay, but how to fix mouse lag during general desktop usage?? I don't have this lag problem in Windows XP using the same hardware... (quad core CPU and multi-core GPU)I suspect something is wrong with vertical sync in Windows 8. Hartley
I had a mouse issue upgrading from Win 8 to Win8.1 when playing Quake 3 Arena. Mouse movement after the upgrade within Windows itself felt exactly the same but when running Q3 the mouse movement was twice the speed. In game sensitivity was a big difference which made it unplayable even after changes to the game cfg.Anyway, I followed the instructions from MarkC's patch which provided me with a workable fix. Link below. I also run Q3 in Win 8 compatibility mode as everything used to be fine before the upgrade. Note: I don't think running compatibility mode was enough on its own!http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.co.uk/2010/03/markc-windows-7-mouse-acceleration-fix.html?m=1After making the changes I now have control of the mouse movements like I used to. The difference was very significant in Q3 but as this thread indicates its an issue brought on by changes within the a Windows coding and is not applicable to every game etc. Edited November 2, 2013 by Hartley
