Pirate Bay's Anonymity Service Attracts 113,000

At the end of last month, the people behind the Pirate Bay launched a new VPN designed to protect users from new piracy laws set forth in Sweden and it seems people are all for it.

Called IPREDator, the name stems from the controversial Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive (IPRED) in Sweden that will allow copyright holders to retrieve personal details of suspected copyright infringers. The IPREDator was to make its public debut--in beta form--at the same time Sweden's IPRED law came into play (last Wednesday) and aims to protect uses by offering anonymous transfers while charging a $6.80 monthly fee in the process. High demand delayed the service from going live on April 1.

Wired today reports that some 113,000 people have signed up and are in queue for the IPREDator service, with Swedes accounting for about 80 percent (just over 90,000).

Those of you getting all excited about being able to evade the law should check yourselves. The new VPN won't leave subscribers completely invisible, but it will make the BitTorrent users harder to track down. According to The New Zealand Herald, the new service will provide a secure and encrypted point-to-point connection, accessible only by authorized users. Thus, IP addresses and downloaded data will be extremely difficult to intercept...but not entirely impossible. Still, the IPREDator website clearly says that it will not store any traffic data, a practice usually unheard of in regards to VPNs.

I thought about it for a while then decided if I was ever to get "caught" sharing

my files I would just format my disk. No evidence: no case :) ; & if that was

to no avail then I would go with shought's route & set it on fire. 4 words would

clear me imediately: i didnt do it. muawhaha...

@Rock Lee:

If you want to destroy computer evidence, just put your HD, RAM, etc., (everything that can store memory) to the microwave :)

Even military grade recovery software will fail.

:think: sounds like a better one than setting it on fire. Will do but if they ask where I got the idea I'm singing like a canary :)

Pretty sure tampering with evidence, aka, you're HDD, is a felony

:P I'm not scared. They didnt catch me before :evil:
