Ruchi Sanghvi — the first female engineer at Facebook and more recently the vice president of operations at Dropbox — is leaving the successful file-sharing startup, just months after helping to transform the company’s web service into a platform that can support a sprawling ecosystem of third-party applications.

“I’ve been working at breakneck pace for a long time, and I thought it would be a good idea to take some time off and re-identify the projects I’m passionate about and can have a huge impact on,” Sanghvi tells us. “And Dropbox is doing particularly well.”

The news was first reported by the tech news site AllThingsD.

At Facebook, Sanghvi helped create the ubiquitous Facebook News Feed and oversaw the development of the Facebook Platform, a collection of tools that let third-party developers build applications that run atop the social networking site or plug into the site in some way. As vice president of operations at Dropbox, she helped build a similar platform for the company’s popular file-sharing service, working alongside her husband, Aditya Agarwal, who oversees engineering and design at the company.

Sanghvi joined Dropbox when the company acquired Cove, a startup she founded with Agarwal with an eye on building collaboration software.
