ESET has confirmed for Softpedia that domains operated by a couple of the company’s partner distributors from Israel and Palestine have been hacked.

A few hours ago, AnonGhost hackers reported defacing the eset.ps, nod32.ps, antivirus.ps and comsecure.co.il domains. For each of the domains, the hackers changed the “index.php” page with one of their own.

A few days ago, AnonGhost announced that they were leaving the hacking scene. However, it appears they haven’t done so.

On the defacement page, the hackers published a protest statement against governments and against Israel. They've also announced their intentions to start a campaign called Op Troll Israel on November 20, 2013.

This indicates that the attack wasn’t targeted at ESET. Instead, they’re using the company’s reputation to spread their message. At the time of writing, all of the impacted domains have been restored and are working properly.

“Today, domains in Palestine Authority administered by our partner distributor were defaced by criminal activity. There was no leak in this incident; however the criminals succeeded to post their message on the homepage in Palestine Authority (eset.ps) for a limited time,” ESET representatives have told Softpedia in an email statement.

“ESET customers were protected and no sensitive data was compromised in this incident. The Palestine Authority homepage was back online within hours.”

As far as comsecure.co.il is concerned, ESET has confirmed that Comsecure is a partner distributor for ESET in Israel. However, the IT security firm’s representatives highlight the fact that ESET’s official website for Israel, eset.co.il, was never impacted by this incident.

AnonGhost has hacked numerous websites over the past months. The hacker group is behind operations such as OpIsrael and OpUSA. However, experts found that many of their claims, especially when it came to leaking data, were either exaggerated or false.
