IT security firm Avast Software has acquired Jumpshot, a company that provides solutions designed to clean up, speed up and protect PCs.

The concept behind Jumpshot solutions is interesting because they’re powered by minions that fight “grime,” a term which describes viruses, spyware, trialware, bloated toolbars and pop-ups.

The minions are led by Officer Pete. Each of them has a specific task. For instance, Kobayashi kills viruses, Trojans, scamware and spyware. Nikita, on the other hand, unclutters the web browser and boosts its speed.

Jumpshot was founded in 2010, but the company remained in stealth mode until last year when it went to Kickstarter for support.

“With the largest AV user base in the world, AVAST has built the best protection in the industry. The Jumpshot minions leverage crowd driven intelligence to optimize PC’s for speed and efficiency. We’re excited to deliver Jumpshot to the AVAST community by the end of this year,” noted Jumpshot Founder Pedram Amini.

Jumpshots’s optimization technology will become available to Avast customers around the winter holiday season. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

great another crap tool that will magically make my pc faster.

Im with you,

Beyond buying a faster cpu, adding more memory or adding an SSD, the ONLY software that will make your PC run better/more efficiently is a defragmentation tool...thats it

Anything else is snake oil....

I just hope they make it easy to opt out of or disable, otherwise ill switch from using it

God hewlp them if they put it in the free version or add nags for this snake oil to the free version

I can almost imagine the nightmare scenario of the free version having a ton of nags more than it does to upgrade to the full version for all that crap

Whoever at Avast thought buying that crap was a good idea should be burned at the stake
