In HP Support Assistant you'll have also the possibility to view your BIOS version.

But I wonder / what for ? There are no updates for your Model available.

Try one of these keys: F1, F2, Del, ESC or F10. Press one of them at a time and repeatedly until you enter the BIOS.

ok guys I see this:

Please select boot device

---> UEFI boot sources
.......Legacy boot sources
--------ATAPi cd-rom
-----------ATAPI cd-rom
-----hard drive
-----------sata1
-----Network controller (atheros boot agent)

Right now arrow is next to UEFI. If I hate F5 to diasble it and arrow down to Legacy boot sources and enable that, will I be able to install windows 8.1. When it is in UEFI and enabled, I get this message:

"windows can't be installed to this disk. The selected disk an MBR partition table. On EUFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks". Please let me know if I will be able to install 8.1 on it. This PC is 64 bit.

thx

if you use uefi you must partition the drive to be a gpt instead of ntfs.

I don't want to use UEFI coz I already have win 7 as NTFS so by disabling it and using legacy will that enable me to install as NTFS and installinf win 8.1? Plz let me know.

thx

Ok, tried disabling UEFI and using legacy but still get the same error. Oh well, I have to decide to get an external DVD burner and use the internal connections from my dvd burner and use it on my other hard drive. IT is a PITA.

must be something else going on. i install win 7 and 8(1) all the time for people since i do it for a living and i never have this issue. you can not simply select a different drive to install to you must turn off all uefi stuff first. if you could post some screen pics of your bios so we could see your settings it might help.
