KB2760411-KB2760588-and-KB2760583-Window

Microsoft rolled out a total of 13 security updates on Patch Tuesday, trying to fix flaws in several products across its range, including Office, Windows, and Internet Explorer.

Now it appears that some users are experiencing issues with a number of bulletins on Windows 7, as three different bulletins cannot be installed at all on specific configurations.

KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583 Windows 7 cannot be installed and after a computer reboot they reappear in the “Windows Update” section.

“The updates are successfully installed, but they keep showing up in Windows Update as needing to be installed. I guess we could hide them if need be, but all three show as being successfully installed on my computer,” one user said in a comment posted on Microsoft’s support forums.

“Same problem. Vista 64-bit. Tried disabling antivirus, but no difference. Updates show as installed in Programs and Features. Would welcome a work around. I'm perfectly willing to edit registry if that's what it would take to effect a repair.”

At this point, Microsoft is yet to release an official statement on the matter, so the company is most likely looking into the matter as we speak, which means that more details should be provided soon.

In the meantime, no workaround seems to be working for this problem, so an official fix is a must-have for both users and Microsoft, as Windows 7 doesn’t seem to be the only affected platform.

“I have tried restarting the PC. Nothing. I have also tried FixIt when trying to troubleshoot Windows Update errors. Still nothing. The FixIt simply ‘runs’ till the end and then says ‘finish.’ It did not offer to fix anything,” one user explained.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft for more comments on this, so we will update the article when and if we get an answer.

Update: it turns out that some other patches are also causing problems on Windows 8 and 8.1 computers. More details and a quick way to deal with the problem are available here.

Update 2: we can now confirm that Windows XP users are experiencing similar problems, but no workaround is available at this point.

Update 3: according to some users, the KB2670838 issues are being caused by outdated video card drivers, so updating them could solve all your problems on Windows 7.

Update 4: we finally received a statement from Microsoft, but the company hasn't provided any official workaround for these problems. It did reveal however that it is now investigating the issues.

Update 5: Microsoft has decided to pull the KB2817630 patch from Windows Update servers until a fix is released.

Update 6: As of this morning (September 14), all updates seem to install just fine and Microsoft confirmed in a blog post that it managed to fix all issues.

I have just updated my Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x86 and Office 2010 Pro Plus and none of the above problematic security updates were available for being downloaded.

I have ticked all the important available updates and the maneuver finished flawlessly. Windows update doesn't show any pending update.

This happened to me too when updating now. Shows successfully installed, but when doing a new check for updates they show up again. Seems to be Microsoft Office 2007 (which is what I use) related only

Doing an Acronis try & decide revert action than.

Updated the info.

In the meantime, users who want to temporarily fix the problems are recommended to uninstall the faulty updates and then hide them from the Windows Update section of the built-in Control Panel.

After the last Microsoft patch update, you would expect the Vole to get the next one right, but you would be wrong.

It seems that Microsoft has a policy of following Black Tuesday, or patch day, with Doomed Wednesday or Unpick The Patch Day.

There are loads of complaints on the Microsoft forums about the errors.

The problem seems to be automatic patches KB 2817630, KB 2810009, KB 2760411, KB 2760588, and KB 2760583.

KB 2817630 is a functionality patch for Office 2013. The belief is that installing this patch, possibly in conjunction with the KB 2810009 patch that is part of MS13-074, causes the folder pane in Outlook 2013 to disappear. This is what happens when you use the latest version of the shared Office library mso.dll 15.0.4535.1002 from KB2817630 in combination with an outdated version of Outlook.

So far Microsoft has been slow to respond. The patches were still available and still marked for automatic installation.

If you uninstall both patches you will get your folders back although there are other work arounds such as installing KB2817503 to update Outlook to the matching version 15.0.4535.1004. Updating Outlook with the August 2013 hotfix (KB2817503) restored the reading pane too.

The other errors were in KB 2760411, KB 2760588, and KB 2760583 are parts of the MS13-072 and MS13-073 security patches for Office 2007.

There are no error messages. Windows Update appears to install them; but the updates have not been installed. They are listed as being important, but Windows will not run them.

Add KB2810048 (security patch for Excel 2003) to the list of those that won't install.

Just disable the update, right click then hide the update (assuming W8 is the same as W7 update system).

I ran patch Tuesday windows updates on three of our household computers, my partners laptop isn't available yet so not done heres yet.

All fine.

If you do have a problem visit http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Install.aspx?referringpage=Home.aspx and then type in the 'kb' then numbers then search and download to desktop.

Make sure you select the right one for your o.p.s. (operating system).

That's how I roll blud, when encountering those problems mentioned.
