Actually, I was never thinking that it will be so easy to download windows updates with IDM having resume support. In this tutorial I'm gonna share how to download windows updates with the fastest download manager in the planet.

Here's how:

Quote
1. Get the windows updates list from the control panel

2. Select one from the list and note the 'KB number'

3. Now, open your web browser and go to 'download.microsoft.com'
Quote
4. In the search box paste the 'KB number' and select 'Search download center' from the dropdown menu and hit 'enter'

5. The results list will be displayed with updates designated by the 'KB number'

6. Find your one and click on it

7. Next, a page will appear with a download button on it

8. Click on the button and IDM will capture it

UPDATE: Now no need to do all these. Microsoft have made available the update catalog to all platforms. So just go to http://catalog.update.microsoft.com enter the KB number and download whatever you want.

Thanks for sharing !!!

I think this method will take no. of shots to download chunk of updates which is very time consuming. IMO Automatic Windows Update Center always downloads the updates with best possible download speed.

But i use it only for some rare updates (like .net framework security & office updates) as the best & fast way is the only what said above by slimrock

I think this method will take no. of shots to download chunk of updates which is very time consuming. Update size of KB 2836988 captured from MS download page has a whopping 162.54 MB size as compared to 62.5 MB in the windows update list. IMO Automatic Windows Update Center always downloads the updates with best possible download speed.

The 162.54 MB one isn't KB2836988, it's KB2769165 in fact. And you can see that in the screenshot too.

catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx

You must use internet explorer 6.0 or later for this. I guess, most of the people don't even like IE to be in there system :tehe:

Ok! my bad :duh: . you also need to update your screenshots accordingly. The screenshots are for downloading of KB 2836988, but you ended up with KB 2769165 :P!!!

That's a procedure, not a process to download a specific update and the KB number has nothing to do with that :)

Yeah, it definitely will but users with slower connection, will be benefited by this and you will be able to save the updates for future use or you may integrate them to the ISO making it up-to-date. For users like me, 1 GB bandwidth is a lot.

MITHI PRASAD

Use windows update catalog, plain & simple. works with ie only

It's a service from Microsoft that provides a listing of updates that can be distributed over a corporate network. You can use it as a one-stop location for finding Microsoft software updates, drivers, and hotfixes.
