BREIN Plans Major Offensive against BitTorrent

BREIN’s success in the Netherlands has been mixed when it comes to intellectual property rights enforcement. They were unable to successfully prosecute KaZaA BV, then owners of the FastTrack network. Their fortunes have changed though as more recently BREIN has succeeded in shutting down Dutch based eDonkey2000 indexing servers Releases4u and ShareConnector.

Looking to build on their success, BREIN is turning their sights on BitTorrent trackers. In a Dutch online news article, BREIN chairman Tim Kuik stated that his organization was going to start taking action against “dozens” of indexing sites.

It appears the pseudo-revival of SuprNova.org, under the guise of NewNova.org, has spurred this latest action. NewNova.org is a virtual carbon copy of the old “universal BitTorrent” listing site. Sloncek, the administrator of SuprNova.org sold the site’s code to a “friend” who in turn established the new site. Over the course of the last two weeks, the site has enjoyed growing popularity. This growing popularity appears to have irked BREIN.

With enforcement actions scheduled for next week, many BitTorrent indexing sites are considered potential targets. First and foremost, it appears NewNova.org will be BREIN’s primary objective. In addition TorrentSpy.com, Snarf-it.org, MiniNova.com, Demoniod.com and the smaller TripTorrent may also be under the gun. MiniNova.com may escape legal action. They are registered in the Netherlands; however this indexing site resides elsewhere.

While on the surface it appears many BitTorrent sites may be in danger, the news surrounding this event may be their savior. At least three BitTorrent tracking sites have already begun preparing for this attack by switching web hosts to locations outside the Netherlands. In essence, when BREIN does initiate their enforcement action, there may not be any BitTorrent indexing sites remaining in the Netherlands.

Tim Kuik, Director of BREIN, did not answer repeated requests for comment on this issue.

As was reported here yesterday, the Dutch “arm” of the movie and music cartels’ pseudo police force announced several “primary targets” in its war against innocent victims who are doing nothing illegal or immoral.

Late last night/early this morning, BREIN began (or at least tried to begin) its illegal take-downsof legal BitTorrent indexing sites.

Last week, for some unknown reason, BREIN’s head “brain”, Tim Kuik, publicly announced the organization was about to attack dozens of websites, effectively giving web site admins sufficient time to move their sites to different hosts and countries.

Truly an act worthy of The Keystone Kops:

BREIN: Hey, we’re gonna shut you down…next week…maybe. But we’re telling you now.

BT Admin: Oh. OK. Thanks for the warning. ;)

The press release mentioned it would be going after the newly resurrected Suprnova, now known as NewNova.

Slyck surmised other targets would probably include TorrentSpy.com, Snarf-it.org, MiniNova.com, TripTorrent, and Demoniod.com.

As of this writing, here's the current status of these websites:

Demonoid - seems to be offline.

Snarf-it - “Snarf Will be Coming back, bigger and badder than ever before...He's Riding the Wave to a New Home, and gaining some new friends...”

TripTorrent - seems to be offline.

Mininova - online.

NewNova - online.

TorrentSpy - online.

It’s not known if Demonoid or TripTorrent were attacked by BREIN, or if they're in the process of moving. It’s also not known (by this writer) where these websites are/were/will be located.

What’s known is that BREIN and the illegal movie and music cartels (a cartel is illegal by any definition!) are continuing their illegal and immoral persecutions of innocent, law-abiding people and websites with their sue ‘em all campaigns.

This cat and mouse game is very annoying, but p2pers can play it as long as they want them to play it, as proven by the fact that for each illegal takedown of a legal indexing website, ten more appear within days, and/or those affected websites move to countries which respect the basic human rights of freedom, free speech, and freedom of choice to do what they wish with legally purchased “product” – as long as no one is making money.

We know the cartels - and their paid-for lackeys and police forces in foreign countries - won't win this war against our freedoms. They can’t, and it’s been proven time and again.

If they’re so bent on taking down web sites, they should spend their time and energy more productively on closing down paedophile and white slave websites, and arresting their owners and ISPs. These are the pages that are harming society and people in every country of the world. These are the websites that are making money from someone’s misfortunes.

Filesharing isn't a crime. Filesharing isn't a profit-making venture. Filesharing isn't theft. It’s the electronic epitome of freedom of speech and freedom of choice – freedoms that governments and their agencies should be protecting.
