Is it , possible to recover data after reformatting a hard drive?I backed up all of my data on an external hard drive, but the external hard drive suddenly stopped working, is there anyway i can recover the data after reformatting the disk?

there is no possible way to tell whether you will get or not the data

the only thing you can do is try

try using test disk..better not write anything to that hdd

use live cd and restore the restored file to another hdd

Depends on what type of format you did. After simple format, you can recover almost all your data if you haven't installed something on the formatted drive yet. If you have installed something on the drive, the empty sectors will be filled by the new data erasing the recoverable one permanently. In this case, you can recover the left outs.

Try HDD Mechanic. This is very good tool.

It all depends on where on the hard drive your files reside and whether they have been overwritten. OnTrack EasyRecovery is what my money's on. :yes:
