Patch Tuesday: 6 critical bulletins

Microsoft has announced it will release a whopping six security bulletins for nearly all currently supported versions of Windows on Tuesday, July 9, as part of its monthly Patch Tuesday event.

Microsoft is preparing for its monthly Patch Tuesday software update event, which lands on July 9 this time with seven security patches.

However, six of those seven bulletins have been labeled as "Critical" by Microsoft, which is the most we have seen in one month in some time. The other bulletin has an "Important" label. Two of the six critical security patches will require a restart of the PC to fully install.

As usual, the advance notice does not go into any specifics behind these updates so as to not alert hackers before they are released next week. However, the summaries do show that the patches will affect nearly all versions of Windows and all involve fixing something that deals with a "Remote Code Execution" issue.

One of the six critical updates is specifically for all supported versions of Internet Explorer. Windows RT manages to only need five of the six updates to be installed; one of the six has been deemed be "Not applicable" for the operating system. Microsoft already released a software update for the Windows 8.1 release preview earlier this week.
