nsane.forums
Last April's HTC One S was due for an Android 4.2 update, but no longer.Sorry, One S owners—Android 4.1 and Sense 4 will have to be good enough for you. When HTC released the One earlier this year with a new version of its Sense UI, the company promised that several of its One-series phones released in 2012 would receive some of the same enhancements and features in a future software update. The HTC One S, released in April of last year, was supposed to be one of those phones, but Android and Me reports that HTC is backtracking. The One S is no longer slated to receive an update to Android 4.2 or the new Sense UI, and it will remain on Android 4.1.1.This means that the One S will miss out on the enhancements in Android 4.2, any improvements made in future versions of Android, and any changes made to the HTC Sense UI for the HTC One (including new features like Zoe and BlinkFeed). The HTC One X (and its many tweaked variants) will supposedly still be updated, but there's no word on exactly when last year's flagship will be getting the update. The One S isn't being skipped for lack of power—it has a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus and 1GB of RAM on the inside. That's more than enough to run the latest version of Android. If we had to guess, we'd say that the phone didn't sell in enough numbers to be worth the trouble since this particular One variant was only sold through smaller carriers like T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile. In the past we've found HTC's Android updates have come out relatively quickly, but as of late the company has been particularly aggressive about ending software support for its older handsets.View: Original Article
calguyhunk
The biggest problem with Android is not malware. People say the same thing 'bout Windows as well. If you don't know how to use your device, you WILL get the nasties. Simple as that. It's not necessarily the fault of the Eco-system although certainly, the openness of an Eco-system does increase the problem. But that's the trade-off that most of us are willing to live with ;)To my mind, the two biggest problems with Android are fragmentation and lack of timely updates - or ANY updates - and they're not entirely unrelated. It's sad that one year old phones stop getting updates from Android handset makers when Apple keeps updating their two-three year old phones/tabs with the latest version of iOS.Of course, Android users who do care will most likely get custom ROMs anyways, but that's beyond the point
x3r0
Even HTC broke its promises to give JB for HTC EVO 3D, though it still has a decent performance to run JB, with its proprietary 3D module all of JB custom roms can't support that. HTC is now a s****y company doesn't deserve to live longer.

HTC is now a s****y company doesn't deserve to live longer.HTC never had the best hardware specs at any price point. The only reason for HTC to compete was their Sense UI which was the best in the biz by an order of magnitude not so long ago. Now that they've done away with the attractive, but gfx intensive 3D effect UI, (remember 'HTC Sensation'?) Sony has the best UI IMO (it's subjective, but ...), and Samsung in general the best hardware for the price (although that's still pretty $h!tty compared to the Lumias especially at the lower end - not to mention the cameras). :oSo for HTC to cry foul that they're losing money on their Android smartphones is just ludicrous. Whose fault is it but their own? It's just giving fodder to the Apple fanboys to foulmouth Android by calling it a loss making industry and allowing the Windows Phone fanboys spreading FUD's and claiming that Nokia will lose money 'just like HTC' if they were to shift to Android - paranoid as they are of losing their very last hope of salvation :angry:Neither of which is nothing but absolute baloney of the highest order! Priced right, Pureview + Android = #Win. Anybody who genuinely doesn't get that is an idiot. Anybody who pretends not to get that (MS employees and fanboys) are just annoying. :mad2:Me? I'd have bought myself the Lumia 520 long ago had it been a Droid instead of waiting for pricier products like the Xperia M and the Ace 3 to get a decent 4 incher with 720p recording from an international brand rather than a local re-branded Chinese OEM handset :(
