Rumors of an Outlook desktop app for Windows RT have been persistent in recent months, but Microsoft is making it official today. At present, Windows RT ships with Office 2013 RT Home & Student edition, but the bundled software does not include an Outlook email client. Windows RT 8.1, a forthcoming update due later this year, will include a full desktop version of Outlook 2013. Windows CFO Tami Reller revealed the plans during a Microsoft event at Computex on Wednesday.

Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang recently praised the idea of Outlook for Windows RT, noting it would make his "life complete." It appears that Microsoft is responding to feedback around a lack of full mail client for Windows RT, with users currently having to make use of the limited Windows 8-style Mail app. Microsoft isn't offering any additional details about its future plans for Office, with the new Office RT app designed for desktop only, but we're still expecting the company to deliver full touch-based versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint later this year.
