Screenshots of Windows 8.1 build 9415 in Chinese have leaked, showing the Start button in place for the first time, as well as other features that we've seen in previous leaks.

Screenshots have appeared of a new build of Windows 8.1 - build 9415 - that don't really show a great deal of new features, but nevertheless show the progress of Windows 8.1 as we approach a public Preview release of the operating system. The Chinese build, with screenshots posted on PCBeta, includes the Start button, however it doesn't look like it's visible all the time with the OS instead requiring a mouse-over in the bottom left corner to get it to appear.

Apart from the Start button we're seeing more of features that we've already reported on. Modern apps will be able to be snapped at a much greater range of widths, while Libraries appear to have been replaced by top-level folders in "This PC" (as it is rumored to be called in Windows 8.1). The Start screen is also seen, touting all four tile sizes that will be available in the update.

It's unclear at this stage whether this build of Windows will leak to the pubic, but if it doesn't it won't be too long until we'll have a public version of Windows 8.1 to test; Microsoft is preparing a Preview version for release on June 26th.

Where is the start button?

The OP of the PCBeta thread said that when moving the mouse to lower left, then the start button would appear.

Would you believe that the current version of Windows 8 I have, you can do the exact same thing???? I can move my mouse the the lower left corner and low and behold, I see a sub screen that says "Start"

That is not the magical "start button" everyone wants and is begging for. It is just a redesigned Start icon that takes you back to the metro screen

@ nuhut,

I was merely quoting from the original PCBeta article that was posted above.

This build could be old, a prototype, but remember it is just a test build for partners. Even after the release of the june build, an awful lot can change before the RTM in october.

:)

Who cares about a Star "button", a Start menu is what we want, not another Metro shortcut :shit:

As long as superior third party start buttons continue working, who cares?
