In general, I suspect there is nothing wrong with Cable provided Internet service in most areas.

However, there were many deciding factors for me and cause for change.

The Cable provider in my area...

  • Constantly raised my rates without any notification and/or me ever changing any service
  • Customer service was much less than adequate if any at all
  • The download bandwidth was good but not great and always fluctuated depending on time of day, which was simply congestion from other customers
  • The upload bandwidth was always less than 1/3 of the download bandwidth and truly NEVER "symmetrical"
  • For example on a good day, maybe about 600+Mbps download and 25Mbps upload

So, when Fiber finally became available in my area, I quickly jumped onboard

Pros for me...

  • Fixed pricing for all service packages with $10 a year price hikes for 3 years then plateaus off
  • 1Gig service is "symmetrical", which was very important to me for my Plex Media Server cloud back-ups (currently experimenting with both iDrive and Backblaze)
  • Great customer service for now

So in the end, Cable is great if this was/is your ONLY option.

However, in my area, Fiber has become superior!

~Cheers~

@bigbrother

I see. Here the cable i-net is totally fine,always was & i hope will be in future. Personally i use the only 1 provider for.....20 years. Before it was 100 Mb/s which is ok even for now but 10 times faster for the same price -y not.  10 USD per month & it works even now after a year of missile strikes .

Same thing from cable providers in Canada. There was a noticeable slow down in the first year of covid. Everyone was at home and it showed.
