3NIGM4 Posted March 13, 2009 Share Posted March 13, 2009 This is an interesting boat. Its the SS San Pasqual, a concrete ship launched in 1920 by Pacific Marine Construction Company, San Diego. It was used mainly for oil transport but not for long. In 1924 the boat was purchased by the Old Times Molasses Company of Havana, Cuba. Then it was purposefully run aground in 1933 near Cayo Las Brujas to be mounted with machines guns and canons as a lookout tower for German submarines. During the Cuban Revolution, the ship served as prison for soldiers captured by Che Guevera's army. Cubans told me Che tortured a bunch of guys in there. This ship served after that for fishermans headquarters, divers meet point. In 1990 the ship was converted into an hotel with all the luxury but it failz so now fishermen gets by to gather moules on the hull.Unfortunatly due to the embargo americans cant legally visit the ship nor Cuba.
