Samsung announces 3200x1800 LCD display notebook

Samsung says it will be showing off new displays this week that will include a 2560x1600 WQXGA LCD for 10.1 inch tablets and a 3200x1800 WQXGA+ LCD display for 13.3 inch laptops.

As more tablets and touchscreen laptops are sold, more attention is being put on the display resolutions for these products; in short, higher resolutions are depicted to be better. Some of the first products made for Microsoft's Windows 8 have been criticized for not having high enough resolutions in their LCD displays compared to other notebooks but Samsung is looking to fix that.

You may remember that Samsung showed off a prototype of a Windows 8 notebook in August 2012 that had a 2560x1440 resolution. While that product has yet to be released, Samsung announced today it is showing off two new LCD displays this week that have much higher resolutions than what is currently available.

Samsung's press release revealed that one of the displays is for a 13.3 inch WQXGA+ LCD notebook with a resolution of 3200x1800. The other is for a 10.1 inch WQXGA LCD tablet display that will have a 2560x1600 resolution. Both will be shown at the Display Week trade show in Vancouver which starts tomorrow.

Samsung claims that not only can it make LCD displays of such high resolution but they both offer 30 percent lower energy usage compared to current products " ... by decreasing the number of driver circuits and increasing the efficiency of the LED BLU." Naturally, that means battery life for notebooks and tablets should be extended with the use of these displays.

Unfortunately, there's no word when Samsung will actually mass produce these displays in their future PC products. Hopefully, they will be made available sooner rather than later.
