New RAR 5.0 format :)

That's a really nice value-addition - however, it's gonna take a very long time (before everybody get themselves compatible with the new .rar5 file format extension.) Remember what happened with the excellent new .zipx file format extension introduced by WinZip - a long time ago. :(

I don't think so dcs18. I think the zip format never evolved because Windows had built in support for it and therefore people didn't see the need for WinZip. Since Windows doesn't natively support the rar format, people will install WinRar and therefore will easily adopt the new format.

I think you misunderstood.

People have adopted both - the .zip (WinZip) and the .rar (WinRAR,) as well. However, we were discussing neither of those file format extensions - we were speaking of the latest .zipx and .rar5

I love the HUD EVOLUTION. Looks great. Thank you very much.

Have fun, davhag - shall keep that post updated with some more radical themes. :)

Probably the most pirated software in the world (after Windows, Office and Photoshop). It's one thing I'll always advice everyone to buy. :)

@dcs18: I think zipx is comparable to rar, not rar5. The reason I say this is, in past when I used zipx, it's compression was similar to what RAR offered. Also, WinRAR is far more used than WinZip, meaning, it's new feature will have a higher chance to succeed.

But what's the difference between rar4 and rar5 archive ?

What's the big difference that made it incompatible with rar4 ?

Not sure about the difference, but I extracted Photoshop CS6's archive and compressed it again in RAR4 and RAR5. RAR5 had 2% better compression than RAR4 (at default dictionary sizes).
