ESET v4 Fixes

Recommended Posts

Hi

Installing ESS 3 or 4 with Marsufix 2.5 (2.6) I haven't problems on XP Pro Sp3 but on "Vista Home Premium" it seems regx32.exe doesn't start (there's a countdown 31,30,29). :dance2:

Only a manual "run as Administrator" for regx32.exe at the boot makes back to 31 after an update.

As I'm a newbye with Vista I wonder if there's something I can try to achieve an automatic process.

Thanks. :king:

Thanks for giving us a more detailed description of what your fix does.

Do you not think it may be best to let us know of any features that are disabled (if only partially) after using your fix? That way we can make a more enlightened choice on which fix will work best for us ;)

By having the Self Defence ticked I'm sure a lot of people that tried your fix were under the impression that their ESET software was giving them 100% protection (very likely for the first time! errhumm ;) LOL).

On both occasions my Ethernet card was enabled and connected when the firewall config error appeared, but as I said it only appeared on the first boot after applying your fix, and after many reboots didn't appear again? Do you know what is making this error appear?

It is a pity that Self Defence does not protect the registry with your fix, I've only ever had ESET software knocked out once over the many years I've used it and this was due to something malicious messing with the registry settings ;)

You are right about the update servers, during all the various testing I have undertaken today I had two updates dry up halfway through! ESS considered it had updated successfully just because it had called home but the sigs date had not moved on, but another click of the update button pulled in the huge update! ;) WOW! a 20MB update! that can't be helping the load on the servers! :o

Hope fix 1.5V will not be too far away? keep up the good work! :king:

A note to the board... don't you think it may be pertinent to include the ru-board fix on the first page? The more people testing these fixes surely means the more info that will be feedback to the board so newer better fixes can be made from the collated information? just a thought mind :dance2:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hoca :

I have been looking for " ru-board fix " but couldn`t find it.

Could you be so kind and upload it for us ?

However, don`t know if it works on 32bits OS. I heard it has to be installed in Windows by safe mode, but that isn`t a problem.

Thanks`s in advanced.

@shought:

For now, try uploading at mediafire or sharebee :king:

I didn't know WillHostForFood is down fbca18c4d812e0d0f305884f9fd8a131.gif

Sorry, missed this.

We don't want to upload at MediaFire or ShareBee. We need a service that allows direct linking to files.

If it allows such thing we might even want to pay a small sum a month for it...

Do you think it´s possible to load a service that resets the trial period before selfdefense starts itself? I used Sysinternal´s LoadOrder to research such posibility and did some testing with no results. It seems like selfdefense was active inmediatelly after boot.

Sorry about my english and thank you in adavance.

Its a readmefile in the pack

This is only a Service that will reset your Trial to 30-31 days.

It don´t do anything with your registry or files... except for the PT.. :D

Install Eset V3 or V4.

If V4 you have to disable Self-defense (Doubleclick on the tray-icon and then press F5)

Install fix

Add servers if you want to.. (Import servers2.reg to the registry)

@Sub0Freeze:

Have you tried in the Frontpage?

Yes, I have. If you click on the x32 link on that page, you get sent to http://willhostforfood.com/users/N/nsanedo...ss_nt32_enu.msi. At that site, the person who runs it posted the following on March 13th, 2009:

Guys, our host deleted all of our user-uploaded files. (People logged in while uploading). I have emailed them about this and I hope to get these files back up ASAP.

@jofre

Mystique posted the link for the ru-board fix (Post #198) Share key: /download.php?guqtw4ojj4n hosted on Mediafire.com.

It does have to be installed in Safe Mode. It is a little fiddly to install with the manual tweaking to ESET registry Permissions (similar to an old fix of Box's) but it does come with instructions and even screen-shots to guide you through the process :D

It would be nice to have a daily reset of the trial without the need for a reset of the puter, but if forgoing this means a fully functional Self Defence then I think it may be a fair trade-off?

@Box

If a pc with your new v1.05A Beta fix is powered up for more than 30 days and the trial expires, will a simple restart of the pc still bring the trial back to life?

Maybe an advancement of your fix could be a choice at install to give the user a choice of fully functional Self Defence with trial reset on restart of the pc. And as a second choice with a semi-disabled Self Defence (as with 1.0V) with a daily reset as well as reset on reboot of the pc? That way all users may be kept happy until newer methods become available, what do you think?

@marsupilami

Just tried to grab your new fix and got "This file is currently set to private. If this problem persists or you need further assistance, contact support." are you still working on it?

Sry.. New ver 1.01.. a bug in the first one

question. is there any difference between updating over nodlogin or ETR trial? I mean, is there a module update on trials or only on retail?

Module updates are only automatic on retail. Also I believe retail gets priority when the servers are having problems, although even retail has problems sometimes.

After asking here about a reg file to import the servers sometime ago I got the impression that no one was really interested in such a file?

If others had shown interest I would have posted the file I made up myself? :lol:

This file as well as importing the servers will show them in Update server: section in ESS settings, so with a single click on the drop-down box you can see what servers you have listed and if necessary specify an exact server, though it seems better most times to leave things set to Choose Automatically, at least you have a choice? ;)

Hope people find this useful?

@Box, could this process be added to your fix? I don't think any of the popular fixes have shown which servers are installed in the Server drop-down-box, well Box... yours could be the first that does? :P

Thanks for the help and patience!

@El_Burro

I have had the same effect, it is because the ESET servers are still being swamped!

Updates can run dry! They start and get part way through, but then grind to a halt and give up! The confusing thing is because your ESET product has semi-successfully phoned-home it thinks it has also successfully updated even though it has been unable to download the full updated sig pack.

Leave it 10mins after this happens then give it another try, click the update button again and watch the progress bar to see it gets smoothly to 100%?

Nothing can be done about this effect, it is only because ESET servers are busy, so you will have to be patient ;)

;) About "ru_board Fix" : It`s working here in my WinXP Pro SP3 (32bits) but isn`t very easy of installing. This one is just for users with some Windows experience and gives some work. It has to be done almost everything "manually".

Take paper note of sequence before you decide to install. Explanations include, but Screenshot 5 is 6 and screenshot 6 is 5.

Not needed to disable "Eset self-defense". I like it ! Works completely and nothing touched on ESET AV. Shows Trial version expires in 31 days.

It works on 32 and 64 bits OS.

Next days I`ll decide which one to choose among all done until now.

OK, guys, here is the new version of my fix (v.1.2).

Changes:

- Improved trial reset on reboot;

- Improved conversion from corporate to trial (Eset could report errors after conversion, solved now);

- Works with Self-Defense enabled now (If you enable Self-Defense after applying the fix, trial will only reset on reboot, so countdown is normal if you do not reboot once a day, you can do a reboot once a month. If this option is disabled, trial will reset daily);

- Added some prompts which will automatically enable Self-Defense if user wants.

@shought

You can update version on frontpage. Just add the _readme.txt with changes I mentioned. You can test it if you want before you update the frontpage.

Enjoy!

Cheers ;)

The Box 1.05A adds the eval servers and make ESET select "choose automatically".

a list of eval servers in a drop-down should be easy to do.

Yes, a simple restart of the pc will bring the expired trial to life.

The process of semi-self-defense is simple for XP but very dicey for Vista because of the built-in security. I have yet to figure out how to reverse the affect if the crack is not applied properly in Vista.
