Samsung admits to posting fake user reviews on the web

Officials in Taiwan are investigating claims that Samsung paid people to post favorable reviews about their products online while at the same time offering up negative feedback on rival HTCs products. The investigation launched after the Fair Trade Commission received numerous complaints on the matter.

TaiwanSamsungLeaks posted documents allegedly showing Samsung hired a marketing firm to catalog different posts made on local gadget forums last year. Some of the post topics include a user complaining that his girlfriends HTC One X suffered from repeated crashes while the Galaxy Note was much better than the HTC Sensation XL. Individuals also posted benchmark results that show the Galaxy S3 outperforms the HTC One X in the graphics and battery life department.

PC Advisor points out that Samsung has not yet received anything from Taiwans FTC but admit that the unfortunate incident did happen. In a statement released on the matter, Samsung said they have ceased all marketing activities that involve the posting of anonymous comments. Furthermore, the company said they adhere to transparent and honest communications with consumers and will work to prevent it from happening again in the future.

HTC said they wouldnt rule out taking appropriate action to protect their consumers and the company but perhaps the bigger issue here is this: if Samsung has been using these tactics against HTC, are they also engaged in similar marketing techniques with other rivals?

That's pretty $hitty :( Samsung doesn't need to do this. They make good enough products to sell by the millions without resorting to such deplorable tactics. :wtf:

oh this is prob known to most of us pirates since when going to a site to get the trial for a respective app, you see a $hitload of reviews that make out the app to be some sort of a must have when it's actually rubbish.

companies have been paying users to write positive reviews since...well ever since I can remember :tehe:

>implying that apple/M$ never paid users to give godlike reviews for mac/window8, made an advertisement using a child (dunno if Apple fell so low) to gain people's heart and make them go "aaaaaw" and pretty much forced it down your throat with its many discounts and codes and god knows what other means.png

I'll give it to Samsung for having the balls to admit something that other companies deny.

Next time do not believe the positive reviews but only take into account the negative ones and further look into the veracity of it. <_<

Reviews maybe misleading but the quality and usabiliy of the actual product will speaks for itself.

Is anybody surprise?

A lot of compagnies surely do this.

Hardware, software, movies, games, it's all the same.

And even if they don't do it, when you see, for exemple, on a website, lots of ads about a game, you already know the score range.

About Samsung...

They do really godd hardware, at a reasonable price.

They don't need to do this.
