nsane.forums
Microsoft has launched a new promotional program that offers app creators $100 cash for each new Windows 8 app and another $100 for each new Windows Phone app, up to $2,000 for each app maker.Microsoft clearly wants to have more Windows 8 apps available in the Windows Store, along with more Windows Phone apps. Now it appears that Microsoft is actually willing to pay money to fill up the app libraries of both Windows 8 and Windows Phone.A promotional program that launched quietly earlier in March offers app makers $100 in a virtual Visa card for each Windows 8 app they submit to the Windows Store that is later qualified for publication to the store. App developers can submit up to 10 apps during the promotion to receive the money. Those same app makers can turn around and submit up to 10 Windows Phone apps in the Windows Phone Store to collect another $100 for each app. That means one app maker could make as much as $2,000 by submitting 20 apps (10 for Windows 8 and another 10 for Windows Phone) before one single download of each app is made. The promotion runs until June 30th or until Microsoft receives 10,000 qualified applications. The terms and conditions of the offer ban any app that is deemed a "modification, rework, redesign or other change to an existing and previously published app." The app must also offer up content besides just launching a web page to qualify. The big question: Is this "offer" simply a way for Microsoft to be nice or is it a sign that the company is so desperate to fill its app library that it is resorting to offering cash to get developers interested in Windows 8 and Windows Phone.View: Original Article
Administrator DKT27 Posted March 20, 2013 Administrator Share Posted March 20, 2013 lol. The store is in a such a bad condition that they have to pay users to make / submit apps? :tehe:Who guarantees those apps wouldn't be just another calculator apps. :tooth:
ck_kent
Didn't Blackberry do this a while ago too? Desperate times call for desperate measures. :DI was just about to submit an app when I read:The app must also offer up content besides just launching a web page to qualify.Oh well. :P
irefay
Yeah, Ive gone back a few times now to try and find new uses for the W8 apps. Most suck. Plus, even if I am watching a movie on netflix, sometimes I want to glance at an email or send a text on GVoice. In desktop mode, I can do this from the browser, but in touch mode, I have to pause the movie or not watch.... no scalable windows in touch mode. Only one task or application at a time... dcs18
No matter how good the store gets with the passing of time (with or without incentives,) I don't think I'd be re-enabling it any time - more than happy with my present Windows 8 arrangement with StartIsBack & Desktop Docks. :D
edwardecl
Offer good only to the first 10,000 qualified applications published in the Windows Store and/or Windows Phone Store, or until the end of the promotional period, whichever comes first. So basically they can just say sorry you were not one of the first 10,000 bye. Or if they deem your app is not "substantial" enough then nope. Or if it is a "clone" so calculator apps will not be acceptable even if it is better than all the ones on there. Oh and it can't be based off of existing code, although how will they verify that?Seems like desperation to me, they just want more apps quickly. But in that sort of timescale 2 months, how are the apps going to substantial at all unless people were already working on them before they announced this. Don't think Microsoft have really thought this one through.

stylemessiah
And yet they still havent realised that 99% of people use Windows as a desktop operating system, not a frickin phone or tablet, and hence Apps are pointless. If i had a dollar for every person ive known who has been silly enough to install windows 8 as it is, who has taken one look at the App versions of things like Mail or Skype and then gotten so frustrated at the lack of features and productivity and then immediately gone and downloaded the desktop equivalent i'd be a rich man......Honestly ive heard nothing but complaints from users about Windows 8, how productivity sapping it is.Im still waiting for Microsoft to come out and admit they got it horribly wrong, and for Ballmer to get the axe, and to put the start menu back (Project Blue?) before i even consider putting it on a PC myself. rudrax
They don't have other way left. People won't just create apps for a cr@ppy platform with their personal interest for free.
