A new AMD PC beta driver shows that it adds support for Halo 3 in its code, but an official statement from Microsoft insists there are no plans to bring the Xbox 360.

In February, a number of games that have yet to be published on Valve's Steam service appeared in Steam's database, including a listing for a previously unannounced PC port of Microsoft's Xbox 360 shooter Halo 3. The database listing was later deleted and Microsoft said there were no plans to bring Halo 3, which was developed by Bungie in 2007, to the PC.

Now there's yet more evidence that some kind of Halo 3 PC port is, or at least was, in the works, Someone looked into the latest AMD beta driver code and saw a Halo3.exe file listing inside the code. The post was made on Guru3D.com.

Unfortunately, Microsoft continues to insist that we won't be getting Halo 3 on the PC. In a statement to Eurogamer, the company repeated what it said in February, saying, "We currently do not have plans to release any Halo titles on Steam, nor do we currently have plans to release a PC version of Halo 3."

Microsoft is planning to launch a new version of the classic RTS game Age of Empires II in a new "HD" edition with updated graphics on Steam. It will be released on April 9th.
