Microsoft shouts Windows 9

While we know that Microsoft is actively working on Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9, the company has never officially stated that these products are in the pipeline but the names have surfaced.

It's shocking really, that Microsoft would be working on Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9. Ok, not really, but references to both next generation platforms have popped up in places around the web including Microsoft's own jobs board.

In a posting for a Bing Software Development Engineer, Microsoft calls out that the particular role will be working on IE 11 and Windows 9 which you can see in the image above.

In addition to the Windows 9 posting, Windows Phone 9 was also mentioned by iSoftStone who claims to have worked on a month long project for Windows Phone 9 related to the deployment of XAP/APPX applications.

Finally, an employee at Microsoft stated in her profile that she is working on the Windows 9 OS for Nokia, HTC and Qualcomm devices. Now, seeing those vendor names, it would seem more likely that it's for Windows Phone 9 rather than proper Windows 9, unless Microsoft is gearing up for a shift in how it promotes products. Notably, there are some large names missing such as Samsung from that list, but we wouldn't read into any of this information about who launch partners will be for the platform as this is limited information, at best.

None of the above information is ground breaking by any means, but it does offer a small window into the world of Microsoft platform development.

xp best performance [external hdd lags]

vista performance sucks

seven best performance (2X xp resourse usage) [external hdd SMALL lags]

eight best performance (resourse usage similar to xp) [external hdd minimum to zero lags]

customize the horse a little bit

Its better without any uninstall shortcuts, readme, extra stuffs; and program shotcut inside folder, again inside folder....

7188778Screenshot__4_.png

I remember using custom folder with shortcuts as 'taskbar toolbar' in xp and win 7, just to get to any program in one click

this is just an example (I use with win xp/7) for easy access

DMudkbb.png

you can always start search and run the programs, but I choose this way

you can also pin frequent programs, but its limited

I never like - license agreement, uninstall, online help, activation, documentation, etc along with program shortcut in a folder, inside folder structure

ANYONE AGREE

If 9 comes with a start buton and is like 7 but with some added things and better stability, then I will buy.

8 is just the new vista.

Microsoft seems to shoot itself in the foot each year, if it's not a huge law suit, then it's them thinking Skype is better than messenger.

Give us a choice, I use messenger, my daughter uses both Skype and messenger.

There's a 5th option that you forgot >>----> The n00b (yeah but, this is the one that Microsoft has already seemed to have removed.)

BTW, you guys would be surprised to learn that I remove drive C:\ 8)

The advantages & benefits of removing drive C:\ are tremendous - one can write a tutorial on it.

Bring back DOS!!!!!!

I can see the sarcasm in that. However, just for keeps, Dosbox does a better job than Dos. Also, Windows 95 was actually better than DOS overall, unlike POS Metro UI.

1. create a folder (say gadgets) at an easy access location, preferably desktop

2. put the shortcuts inside this folder

3. right click on taskbar, choose 'toolbars' > 'new toolbar'

navigate to a folder containing shortcuts (here, folder gadgets in desktop)

When a new OS is introduced (by whatever name 9, 99, 999, etc., etc.) with a faster kernel more secure and stable than Windows 8 - I'll migrate immediately whether it has the Start Menu or not.

The solution is simple - a Desktop Dock to replace the Start Menu. BTW, on my current copy of Windows 8, I've got both - the Start Menu and Desktop Dock, as well.

Ah, ok. Like this I have already. I thought u use any kind of a program which scans the program folder and creates for applications shortcuts or something like that.

This might be a good idea for a new program to scan the program folder and user can select next to applications (exe), help files and others so that it resolve the program names from the shortcut names.

I also find there is no need to have for every program a submenu containing the uninstaller, help files (which almost always can be called from the program), readme's and weblinks. Just a link to each application maybe sorted into category submenus like Graphic Tools, Audio and Multimedia, System Tools etc...
