Samsung: Windows 8's no better than Vista

This puts me in a small minority, but I hate Windows 7. The computer I'm using now came with 7 installed, and I used it for about a year, so I can't be accused of not giving it a fair trial. I made several attempts to use XP in a virtual machine, but the results were never satisfactory. Finally I wiped the disk and installed XP. I had none of the driver problems that I'd been warned about.

I haven't tried 8, and see no reason to bother. I plan to use XP until something better comes along. So what if Microsoft "support" will end next year? Who needs it? I've installed none of the post-SP3 "security updates", and I've had no security problems at all. What is security software for, anyway?

Kinda makes u look ignorant for using XP on a machine that came with Win7.... that's what!

There are certainly some nice people posting to this forum. I guess I won't mention my PhD, or my years of graduate-level teaching and military R&D.

The last decent operating system Microsoft made that was could be just a basic stable operating system without any thrills was Windows 2000, I some ways I preferred it over XP but then they dropped support and that was that really. XP was just a bloated version of 2000 with crappy theme support that never worked properly and all of about 3 themes to choose from... with a few updates built in and came in a 64bit version.

Then a huge gap then Vista which was really just a more bloated version of XP with features that slowed down the OS and crappy windows updates that ended up breaking the OS, although it did come with GPU accelerated GUI which is always nice. Then there was Windows 7 which was just Vista 1.5 which was a pay for fix for Vista pretty much, no really noteworthy new features that I can think of, but still just a bloated version of Windows XP/2000 with a few upgrades to explorer and the interface.

Then there is Windows 8 with a touch interface... and wait for it... and new task manager... wow.

Microsoft, please FFS update the core OS and implement a filesystem that does not suck or let people integrate their own filesystems. Make it easy to use for the novice user, get rid of stupid things that not everyone uses and make it optional, put in some form of package manager to install verified software, and software sources that people can add themselves. Put a fully scalable interface so people with HDTV's can use the bloody thing at more that 3 meters away in desktop mode, then implement a touch interface that's seamlessly is integrated into the desktop interface. And maybe perhaps add some native support for new compressed archives such as 7zip and RAR in explorer, or at least allow plugins for explorer to handle those file types so you don't have to use custom GUI's, take a look at dopus for inspiration there, get rid of internet explorer and burn it a replace it with either Chrome or Firefox I don't care which, maybe bundle a few office apps with it and a few utilities such as a partition manager with resize and copy support and the ability to format and mount custom filesystems. Oh and another that would be handy is update windows without restarting the OS 7 times in a row, or download updates for updates for updates and spend 4 hours just updating Windows, it's idiotic.

Then it would be a great operating system instead of meh.

I can see that people have totally lost it - the topic is about Windows 8 vis-à-vis Vista from the Samsung point-of-view.

It's also exceedingly evident that most folks are totally ignorant about Windows 8. Stay on topic guys - make some educated posts (it's not cool to sound clueless - not anymore.)

Please stay calm. There are many guys and girls out here, who are using Win8 with(out) problems. Do not ruin the reputation of Win8 just because you do not love it.

Just as people know, there's a bigger background to this story. Samsung, just a couple of days ago, had to massively decrease the production of Windows tablets and probably notebooks too due to serious lack of demand for them, so much so, that Samsung are going to stop selling Windows products in some regions (example Germany).

In my country no Windows products? You are kidding me!

I meant Windows 8 products.

Here, take this article for example. Other article I had read earlier also mentioned notebooks, etc.

As far as I know only Windows RT is meant.

Samsung is right that there is absolutely no-one who will buy the RT versions, they can nothing better than iOS or Android tablets and can't run x86.

I not sure what everyone is bitching about when it comes to windows 8, I find it a more of the same experience with the expected incrimental performance and usability. Windows does not really evolve in a big way for end user, not sure what Samsung are expecting.

As for they Touch, screw touch being a motivator for myself personally. I never will be interested in putting marks on my screens or holding my arms up all day long... the successor of the keyboard as a touch interface would probably be more of a killer device to push sales.

Not everyone bitches - there certain kinds of exclusive Characters who do. I have made a list of such Characters - the list is updated regularly.

You can find that list of those exclusive Characters under my Disclaimer at the following link:-

BTW, there's only one commercial that I'm being exposed to - pretty regular intervals at that.

That advertisement belongs to Samsung and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . yes, they are show-causing Windows 8:-
