nsane.forums
A German court ruled today that Google's Android operating system does not infringe on any patents that are owned by Nokia in a case that the phone maker leveled against HTC.Another day, another patent decision made over in Germany. This time the fight is over two patents related to Google's Android OS that were being disputed in court by Nokia, who filed a lawsuit against Android smartphone maker HTC in May. The lawsuits are just one of many different court cases Nokia currently has against the Taiwan-based HTC. Back in November, Nokia said HTC had violated 32 different patents in the US and Europe. In this particular case, Nokia said that HTC's use of the Google Play app in its smartphones was in violation of Nokia's patent which is for a "method for using services offered by a telecommunication network, a telecommunication systems. The other patent concerns "an electronic display device and lighting control method of same."In the end, the judge in the case ruled today in the District Court of Mannheim, Germany that HTC did not in fact violate those patents. CNet reports that HTC was pleased with the court's moves today, with a spokesperson saying, "we are gratified that the court apparently shares HTC's view ..."Nokia, understandably, was not happy with the judge's decision, saying in a statement, "Nokia respectfully disagrees with the court's decision and we are considering our options." That sounds a lot like Nokia plans to appeal today's ruling. Of course, it still has 30 more patent disputes to go.View: Original Article
