nsane.forums
The number of Windows 8 users on Steam is now more than the number of Windows XP user, according to the newly updated Steam hardware survey report for Feburary 2013.While Net Applications gives an idea about how Windows 8 is doing from a more general PC audience, the tens of millions of Steam users show how the operating system is being accepted by the more hardcore PC gaming crowd. Today, the latest Steam hardware survey results are in for the month of February 2013 and it shows that Windows 8 is now ahead of Windows XP among its user base. The new survey results show that a total of 9.63 percent of Steam users (combining 32-bit and 64-bit SKUs) have Windows 8 installed on their gaming rig, compared to 8.76 percent in January 2013. Windows XP is still being used by 9.33 percent of Steam subscribers, down from the 10.05 percent that it had in January.Windows 7 is still the top dog among PC operating systems on Steam. The February survey numbers show that it commands 69.31 percent of Steam users, but that's still lower compared to the 69.73 percent in had in January. Windows Vista users of Steam in February totaled a mere 5.84 percent, down from 6.02 percent in January, as the seldom-seen OS' share continues to slowly dwindle. The combined number of Mac Steam owners is currently at 3.07 percent, down from 3.56 percent in January. There are quite a few versions of Linux showing up in February's Steam survey, but adding them all up shows that they total just 2.02 percent of Steam users.View: Original Article

MidnightDistortions
lol well it just shows that gamers wanted to upgrade their systems. That doesn't reflect every user though but it would be interesting to see how many of those users were XP / Vista / 7 / other. And i wonder how many of those Win 8 users use the classic shell (or other start menu).

dcs18
Doesn't make much sense to have Windows XP in any kind of comparison - most of the XP Users could be trying to upgrade to other OS.

RMD
Like it or not, this is only to be expected - for many reasons. Most users don't even know what the Steam survey is, they are the "Where's the Next-button"-persona. Then we've the "latest and greatest is the best! I don't care SH*T what anyone says!"-persona. Then we've the "I'll try to get this to work"-persona.Haha, I like the last one, for a good reason; when I was at my friend's house to do everything I can to make Windows 8 work as good as possible (and that's not an easy task), I had to reformat that system 10 times - and that system had completely new, top-of-the-line parts (mostly). B)Haha, not at all, I was expecting this after hearing his stories about it long before. AHCI wasn't on in his BIOS (for compatibility reasons obviously), so we had to move the entire GTX 680 card from ASUS (DirectCU, waste of space if you ask me) to the second PCI-E slot, then reroute a bunch of cables, but we ended up with the SSD on SATA_0 and I think by now W8 has finally accepted it.The BDDrive was kept on slave for obvious reasons, but W8 itself still has these disgusting issues with simple two-monitor setups. None of this crap is a problem on a W7 system. MS seriously needs to change the board if you ask me. They can just look at the numbers, the people think they suck. dcs18
@ RMDI can only say this much:-Any person who thinks that he is an Advanced User only needs to take Windows 8 for a full blooded test drive over a protracted period of time (nothing less than 25 days.)By the end of 25 days, that person would know whether he is suitable for Windows 8 or not. LOLOLbuy me dinner first ;)this is part 88 of 88888 of this never ending story loli'm be impressed when Win 8 over takes Win 7..should we be surprised that Windows 8 is used more than Windows 2000 also ?Old OS's fade away.. how that is news i don't know..It is interesting how last year Obama was shown running Windows XP in the White house though lolXP is great still and has it's place i think..many kids playing Minecraft or WOW or whatever forget the world doesn't revolve around themMany corp's out there have custom software that may only run on XP, i dealt with Hotel Remote flashing software made for global chainand that was the case for them.. there is no conceivable way for them to upgrade it can not be done. and why would they it runs flawlessly lolSo it kinda bugs me when people trash on perfectly good systems and basically say people should throw their machine in the garbage and buyWindows 8 so they can have social media cr'Apps etc.I'd hack off my balls with a rusty steak knife before i use Win 8 lolHell i'd sooner go back to using Win XP x64 before i used Windows "Hate" ..my computer is not a cell phone for tweens to Facebook on..
