Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said today that the upcoming future game consoles won't be able to surpass a current high-end gaming PC in terms of its hardware and performance

While there's a lot of excitement about the launch of next-gen consoles later this year, gamers already have a way to buy something that, at least in terms of performance, should be able to surpass that of even future generation consoles.

Eurogamer.net reports that Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli knows what's inside the consoles that will be launched by Sony and Microsoft in 2013 but can't talk about them due to an NDA. He did say:

It's impossible to package $2000-3000 into a mainstream, let's say $500 console. I'm not saying they are $500 consoles. They may launch a console at $2000, but the consumer pricing is usually much lower than that. So, given consumer pricing, and given the cost of production of a gamer PC and the amount of watt of power it needs, which is like a fridge, it's impossible.

Of course, game consoles are going to be much cheaper than a high end gaming PC, which also means only a few people will be able to afford such hardware. For those that do, they will be able to run Crysis 3, due out on Tuesday, with tons of DirectX 11-based features.

Some PC games might have issues running Crysis 3 on their PCs with all of the effects turned on. Yerli stated:

Crytek is probably the only company where you read forums and YouTube, people are excited if they can't run the game. I don't think it's like that at any other game company. Our graphics programmers said, 'we're going to give them a game they can't run any more.'

It seems like Crytek is planning to start hardware business, so called "game consoles". As their graphics programmer already have said that they won't let PC users to run their games, so it indicates the evaluation of hardware for the games from crytek.

I could never see myself purchasing a $3,000+ PC especially when they become obsolete after so many years. I learned my lesson with laptops as well, never use them as your main computer for heavy process lifting. Pretty much i do want to see my PC last a very long time so when i built my 2012 i7 PC i just wanted the best in performance, lots of ram, the best processor/motherboard (within price of course). Got a decent GPU that runs most games for $30 & i'm set. I would have just simply thrown in a hdd i had laying around but considering the 6.0gbps i figured it couldn't hurt. Even though 6.0 hdd's are not much better then the 3.0 at least it will have the best performance compared to one of my older hdds. Anyway with all that it would have came to $900 but since the addition of the hard drive it was around $1,000. It was pretty steep but considering all the accessories i bought as well in addition (new keyboard/mouse, cords ect..) it still was a pretty good deal. I won't be buying anything new for a long time unless it's for a repair. At some point though i'd like to get a tablet or iPad but for now i'm giving that time to grow & evolve before getting one, unless i happen to get one for free of course. :)

Anyway i keep hoping that eventually more people will turn to PC's for gaming, consoles are nice & cheap but really i think in the long run PC's are generally cheaper and not everyone does really need the graphics turned all the way up. If i got a $30 graphics card that at least plays the first Crysis & Skyrim on decent or low settings just perfectly fine most people might spend a good $100 on a better card & really even a decent PC can be built for $500 & still match or is better then current consoles. If you have existing parts, it could be less then that. My 2012 PC gets more hours usage then the PS3 does. In fact much more and even though i might not game on it all the time, there's still plenty to do on a PC then a game console. Still though even if people did went all to PC it might cause more people to upgrade more often then they'd really like to in order to keep up with the advancing technologies. Then again there is only so much detail a game can have before we run out of ideas for a bigger design. Since the PS2 i have always thought that we would run into that problem but modern games still push more graphics over the years.
