Administrator DKT27 Posted February 7, 2013 Administrator Share Posted February 7, 2013 Article one:Today at the game industry's DICE conference, the guy in charge of Valve and the man directing both Star Wars and Star Trek said that they want to make Portal and Half-Life movies. And games, too.Gabe Newell and J.J. Abrams spoke about storytelling in each of their mediums. When the panel ended, this exchange happened:Abrams: There's an idea we have for a game that we'd like to work with Valve on.Newell: We're going to find out if there's a way we can work with you on a Portal and Half-Life movie. And the two men walked off, without any further details. Both creators are renown for keeping secrets, so don't expect any details about these proposed projects anytime soon. But just the very notion of a collaboration between the company behind Half-Life 2 and the man behind Lost is a tantalizing prospect.Article two:Appearing with the director J.J. Abrams at D.I.C.E. Summit today, Valve's Gabe Newell said the company would "find out if there's a way we can work with you on a Portal and Half-Life movie."Polygon reports that things may be a little further along than that. Speaking after the panel, Abrams told Polygon "We are really talking to Valve, we are going to be bringing on a writer, we have a lot of very interesting ideas."However, "it's as real as as anything in Hollywood ever gets," he added. Which means it could be a sure thing, or could amount to nothing, or could take forever to bring to life. Like, well, Half-Life 3.Article three:Star Wars director J.J. Abrams has offered assurances that the prospects of Half-Life and Portal movies actually materializing are real and early planning has already begun. This follows today's revelation that Abrams and Valve are in talks to produce motion pictures based on the respected developer's beloved game franchises."It's as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets," he said after the less-than-concrete announcement."Which is that we are really talking to Valve, we are going to be bringing on a writer, we have a lot of very interesting ideas," he told Polygon."We're also aware of the cautionary tales of movies that became games and vice versa. Our goal here to is to treat the world Valve has created in both these properties like anyone would a book or some great story that comes from a pitch or original script - just to treat it with the respect they treat their games and their players with."Abrams expressed excitement at the chance to work on movies based what he described as "some of my favorite games"."We're not looking to make a movie in the gaming world, we're not looking to impose what we do on that, we're looking forward to taking some of our strengths and collaborating with some of these incredible minds that make some of my favorite games," he said. :view: View: Original Article 1 & Original Article 2 & Original Article

Administrator DKT27 Posted February 7, 2013 Author Administrator Share Posted February 7, 2013 Having never seen or played either of these games, I'm not sure whether this film thingy is good or bad news? :PHalf Life changed the gaming scene when it was released. Infact 90% of FPS games released till now, had taken Doom and Half Life as their examples. The Half Life series is nothing less than a piece of great thinking and execution. I recommend you to play it.Portal, well, it's an calm person's puzzle and game(s) with very very very deep and emotional story. What people don't know is, Half Life and Portal share the exact same universe. Both have their own labs competing against each other. There are also some rumours about both the protagonists of the games sharing the blood of the family. So, it can be that both the games are merged together in the movie or the future games.
PurplebeanZ
@DKT27Well I've played Doom :DAs a general rule I only like games pre 2000, but Portal does look interesting. Maybe I'll give it a shot.
Administrator DKT27 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Administrator Share Posted February 8, 2013 @DKT27Well I've played Doom :DAs a general rule I only like games pre 2000, but Portal does look interesting. Maybe I'll give it a shot.Half Life (1) was released in 1998. :DIf you plan to play Portal 2 too then you should play Portal (1). But, if you want to just try it, I'll advice Portal 2. ;) If you play Portal 2, first half hour will feel slightly boring, then the villain gets alive again, the game changes fully then, after that is complete mixture of patience, extremely funny satirical dialogues, and most important, puzzles.
