now here's something interesting

so I submitted their online installer present on their homepage to ThreatExpert hoping it would give me the url it contacts to dl the offline installer and I found something interesting while reading the report

first of all, here it is

http://www.threatexpert.com/report.aspx?md5=2dffad7bf7d5c4572580cb477aef8917
Notice what it does at the end. It makes a connection to "api.mybrowserbar.com" and the strange part is that mybroserbar isn't mentioned at all in the online installer nor is it included as a turn off button in the additional options

Now, a quick search in google yields some pretty interesting results

Also, upon canceling the online setup, it creates a shortcut for the respective online .exe on the desktop, which is pretty weird since installers usually exit when you click on the 'x' button

Marik - that is disturbing indeed. I only hope that IOBit knew nothing of this and\or that their download server go injected with malicious software somehow (though, unfortunately, I highly doubt it). I also hope that you have contacted them with these disturbing findings.

instead, just use the offline installer to which a link is supplied on the download page. I personally always use only offline installers, because I don't like to wait for the online installer to download additional components to my system each and every time I need to install\reinstall an application - that's why it's always best to perform a one-time download of the offline installer instead.

Thanks for the update! Giveaway license still works like a charm with this one. :)

Mate, I can ensure you that since it's their online installer, they were fully aware of what they were doing, they just never expected somebody to 'question' their online installer

I'll take it to their forum but I doubt I'll get an honest answer...I'll prob be met with some stupid excuse
