Microsoft Doesn’t Care About Users, All It Wants Is Money, Say Angry WLM Fans

Microsoft goes on with its plan to shut down Windows Live Messenger and force all users to either move to Skype or completely abandon the platform.

But WLM fans are still angry with Microsoft’s decision and criticize the company for not listening to its users when it comes to its Messenger platform.

A thread started on the official Microsoft support forums has led to a new wave of criticism aimed at the Redmond-based software company, with some users claiming they’re ready to dump Microsoft’s Messenger services completely.

“I am sorry, but Microsoft should never discontinue Messenger. There are many people who do not like Skype (as well as many that do not like MSN Messenger). So, give us a chance to choose which one to use,” a WLM fan said in a post on the forums.

“I already decided to use Yahoo! Messenger, because of this merge w/Skype (which is a huge mistake). I hope Bill [Gates] change his mind once a dramatic drop on MSN Messenger/Skype use happens. Me?, I'm gone from that Microsoft/Skype bubble...gone to Yahoo! Messenger,” another user stated.

Others, however, criticized the software company for its attempts to monetize Skype, saying that Microsoft doesn’t care about its users.

“Microsoft does NOT care about their customers’ opinions, all they care about is THE MONEY,” a WLM user posted.

Sadly for Microsoft, the number of users who actually agree with its decision to kill WLM is extremely small, even though the company struggles to convince everyone that the Skype platform is actually a lot better.

Windows Live Messenger will be retired on March 15, but the Messenger service will still be available,

Doesn't seem like they let you download the WLM anymore. Forced to use Pidgin to talk to my WLM contacts. They need to let their users merge Microsoft Accounts... Can't use Skype as a replacement for WLM unfortunately.

I honestly feel sorry for those people using Yahoo! Messenger as an alternative. It's like taking a step backwards in terms of security alone due to how notoriously exploitable that client and its protocol is. :P

As you guys may have read, even Trillian, MirandaIM and PidginIM will loose Live Messenger functionality after some time. :(

I think it is a another stupid mistake being made by M$. Losing Windows Live Messenger. I use MSN Explorer 10. I wonder what messenger they will use for that. They can keep Skype and shove it. Yahoo has gone down hill. What is going to be left. I downloaded Skype and put in my msn email address and got nowhere at all

I am an Apple customer,

I bought iphone 5, and i have battery problem, the device is brand new and by me for 2 weeks.

so they said i have international warrent, then i sent my telephone, they sent it back not repaired because of warrenty issue between the countries bla bla bla,

i asked them if my device is not original or not covered, so they said it is warrented and original and from apple but they cannot repair it.

I dont know why are the people focusing on microsoft and they are forgetting apple.

They said one time the customer holds the telephone in wrong way.

then they said, they will give Pumpers, but if i am a customer who don't like pumpers why i cannot get my money back when they have the device.

....I hope Bill [Gates] change his mind once a dramatic drop on MSN Messenger/Skype use happens...

I stopped reading there...

Well of course if you think that Bill Gates still works at Microsoft, and if you still use WLM then you are clearly living in the past. So I think they are doing you a favor by closing it.

I am sorry if someone disagrees but I do prefer Skype

You are only in the past, not us. Bill Gates still working at MS, but as part-time. There is proof. Here

You both are wrong. It doesn't matter if Bill Gates works for Microsoft or not. The real story (not joking, read the news) is that Bill Gates forced/asked/made Microsoft buy Skype as he loved it. So the author, by putting that user quote, is probably suggesting that Bill Gates is pushing WLM out to get Skype in, which might actually be true.

Alrighty folks, don't laugh at me, but I own a BlackBerry smartphone (love 'em, actually) and Skype does not run on a BlackBerry smartphone. :( Waaah! LOLz! :P I will be bidding farewell to BlackBerry when I'm eligible for a new phone in July, but for now, I'm without a replacement for WLM.

No matter how many news articles I read or how many hipsters say to me that Blackberry is great. For me, it is dead and will remain dead. Whether upcoming BB OS 10 is good or not.

Anyway, back to the topic. Doesn't BB have any apps whatsoever which can offer multi-messenger functionality? :)
