Actually, Kaspersky is lighter on resources than Bitdefender. :)

I wasn't trying to say that ESET is bad, because it most certainly isn't. I was just saying it doesn't offer the amount of protection the other two do.

I see. :)

Thing is, I personally found BD's "autoscan" feature slowing down my HDD a lot. Disabling it feels very fast. I do note some slowdowns of loading explorer related things though.

Maybe, Kaspersky's new version (2013) has improved in performance.

I'm uninstalling Bitdefender AV+ 2013 because of the stupid Auto-Scan garbage. That and having the "scan inside archives"

option enabled freezes explorer continuously, even when I'm not doing a single thing with archives. Disable it and the PC runs fine. Going to give Kaspersky AV 2013 a try. Bitdefender forums are a joke too. I'm anxious to see how new AV-Comparative tests will rate ESET v6 after it's been out now and after a couple of updates. If it scores at least equally to Kaspersky I'll switch.

I'd be heavily outnumbered, but - I personally resent every new release from ESET (despite the fact - admittedly, that they're getting better and even fixing more bugs.)

What I'd like is an ESET release consisting of just one module - the standlalone AntiVirus.

I hate an all-in-one suite consisting of HIPS, anti-theft, anti-spyware, firewall, anti-malware, parental control.

I already have specialist standalone programs from 3rd party Developers for HIPS, anti-theft, anti-spyware, firewall, anti-malware, parental control.

Ideally, I'd like ESET to cater to 2 different segments - Newbies & Power Users (suites for Newbies & standalone modules for Power Users.)

I totally agree with you. The solutions all-in-one does not go with me because all they do is consume RAM and system resources. I prefer a good firewall separately such as Comodo and AV plain software only and nothing else. Do not be so alarmist with dirt Internet if you have the knowledge of where one is putting their noses.
