StartIsBack is a great way to relieve your (and your users) Windows 8 pain. StartIsBack returns Windows 8 a real fully featured start menu and start button, behaving exactly like the ones in Windows 7. StartIsBack radically improves desktop usability and makes new Start screen clutter-free. StartIsBack is fully native lightweight zero-privileges program, cheap and fair, fast, stable and secure. Boot to desktop; Original fully-featured Windows 7 start menu; Desktop and Modern interfaces clearly separated; Make Start screen clutter-free; Totally native; Rich customization and configuration; And More to come! Think of it as a transition path which Microsoft should have made for Windows 8.

I gave up on this because it is very unstable. Only the first one (v1.2.4) was useable and stable. And they are all (preactivated/cracks) infected and violated.

I haven't any issues with SIB in any version. And when a precracked version posted here is detected as virus it's a false positive. Never get infected with a any crack posted here.

No issues here - no infections or violations, either.

Thanks to jalaffa :)

Changelog -

Version 1.3.3 18 Jan 2013

  • Fix: StartIsBack could fail to work on some systems with DEP enabled

Just wondering though -

Next version is under heavy development.

That was after version 1.3.2. Now this (as it stands) is a minor bug fix ;) Dunno what version 1.4/2.0 (that Tihiy must have been alluding to) holds :dunno:

anyone here know how to enable hibernate option on it? (if possible)

already tested Start8, it has hibernation option. so, how about SIB? :)

thanks for someone who can answer it ;)

StartIsBack 2.0 Beta has been released - this little program has now started improvising on the default one that comes with Windows 7. :D

Fixes:
- Programs excluded from MFU never return there until usage history is reset
- Secondary tiles for modern apps are excluded from MFU and new program highlighting
- Search no longer finds faux shortcuts (Desktop, PC settings, Windows Store)
- Pinned items are automatically renamed if renamed from shortcut properties

New:
- Modern Apps (Start Apps) are included into MFU, search and all programs list
- Shortcut to Start Screen in Start Menu
- All programs multi-column flyout (Windows XP style)
- Closing Modern App returns you to desktop or start screen, whichever was used last (not configurable now)

Bugs:
- Reordering items in All Programs can be buggy
- Start Apps folder is not refreshed automatically
- Modern Apps icons can be missing
- Installer can be unreliable
- New version notifying is wrong

THIS VERSION DOES NOT REPRESENT FINAL PRODUCT QUALITY AND IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR EVERYDAY USE
MAY CAUSE SERIOUS ISSUES.
