Java Runtime Environment 7 Update 11

Recommended Posts

The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provides the libraries, the Java Virtual Machine, and other components to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. In addition, two key deployment technologies are part of the JRE: Java Plug-in, which enables applets to run in popular browsers; and Java Web Start, which deploys standalone applications over a network. Users should install the 32-bit version if they are using 32-bit browsers. If you use both 32-bit and 64-bit browser interchangeably, you need a Java Plug-in for each browser. Hence you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively.

thanks, updated.

does this patch the so called big "exploit" thats going around?

Yes.

Actually, this update only changes the Java security level from Normal / Medium to "High" in control panel, whichi Oracle thinks fixes the problem as the "High" mode doesn't allow unsigned apps to run without user consent. So yeah, that's it.

Thanks for the notification! What really surprises me is that the Ask toolbar is included in Oracle’s Java updates (didn’t happen when Sun was responsible). Is Larry really that poor or is it that his Yacht needs upgrading?

What I hate about java is it's utter disrespect for User Preference - it will startup with Windows even if one had configured it; not to.
