In May, Microsoft announced that people who bought a new Windows 7 PC between June 2nd and January 31st would be able to get a downloadable upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $14.99. Today, Microsoft took to the official Windows blog to give people a reminder of that offer now that the deadline is approaching.

The blog goes into detail on how people who have Windows 7 PCs bought in the required time period can get the super cheap Windows 8 Pro upgrade. The quick and dirty version is that you register your Windows 7 PC at the upgrade offer's website and you should get a promotional code via email. When you go to actually download Windows 8 Pro, you put in the code to turn the upgrade price to $14.99.

While Microsoft doesn't mention this in today's blog post, people who own older PCs with Windows XP, Vista and 7 that were bought before June 2nd can also get an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99. However, that price is also scheduled to end on January 31st. So far, Microsoft has not revealed what the upgrade price will be for Windows 8 Pro after the end of this month.

One final quick note: Microsoft's Windows 8 Pro upgrade offer also allows users to download the optional Windows Media Center add-on for free until January 31st. Again, Microsoft has yet to announce what the price will be for that add-on once that offer expires.

With Windows 8's bad report, it isn't going to matter anyway...

People will go back to windows 7, the better OS in the first place.

You should have guessed that it won't happen, considering Microsoft's recent history of it's stubbornness. :P

Tried and tried to use windows8. But finally went back to 7 and am glad I did. I have legit license and still am disappointed in 8. MS really dropped the ball on this one. Only thing that might make me go back to 8 is the windows blue updated OS.

What in particular about Windows 8 was the reason(s) it let you down? :)
