Microsoft is reportedly planning to launch a new Windows version as soon as next summer, with sources familiar with matter hinting that the Redmond-based company will baptize the new operating system “Blue.”

Even though the company is yet to publicly comment on these rumors, it appears that it is pondering several UI changes, but none of them concerns the recently introduced Start Screen.

While we’ve already told you that Windows Blue wouldn’t feature a Start button, CNbeta reports that Microsoft may also dump the Aero interface completely, in the favor of a more simple appearance.

According to previous reports, Windows Blue could be offered for free or with a very affordable price tag, in another attempt to move consumers away from older operating systems, such as the 11-year-old Windows XP.

I'm surprised they consider Windows 8 to be having Aero UI. If they think this is Aero, they either need to get their eye checked or their brain.

M$ have gone bonkers. Too many updates that fix the wrong things, when will we get a proper desktop OS again then?

Some Linux distros are even more annoying with a new version every six months, but I'd have switched every PC to a rolling release like Arch or Gentoo now, if it wasn't for the Adobe Creative Suite.

<_<

This lends credence to my theory that Windows Blue is just an hoax - a rumor that never contains any Microsoft links (just like the Microsoft Office 2007 Blue Edition.)

Windows 8 has Aero UI , Microsoft just removed Glass effect.

Incorrect. It's infact the opposite. Windows 8 has glass effect (in task bar), they just removed the Aero UI. What you are talking about is Aero Lite, which is very hard to accomplish.

Kind of ironic that they would give it a name CODE BLUE. In the U.S. code Blue is used to indicate a patient requiring immediate resuscitation!

Aero is fully enabled and thriving in Windows 8. In fact, Aero is the ONLY theme available. Unlike in Windows Vista and 7, YOU CANNOT EVEN TURN OFF AERO in Windows 8

The only thing gone in Windows 8 is transparency in window boarders. Everything else about Aero is present in Windows 8 .

Aero Glass was just a part of the Aero Interface.

1. That guy is an idiot. He is using way older build of Windows 8. Windows 8 doesn't look like that. I mean, to a lot extent all those buttons and looks have changed in the final build which I am using right now.

2. He is talking about Aero shake and similar stuff, fair enough, they are as present as they should be. But that's not what the main, Aero Glass theme is about.

3. Aero in here is about the feel and look of things. Windows 8 may have a Aero rip-off, but it's not Aero.

Let me give to an example. Here is Startisback with Aero Glass theme and here is the Aero 8 theme that resembles the transparent Task bar:

Aero Glass:

Aero 8 (nothing but plain transparency, like Windows 8 taskbar):

See my point? This isn't Aero. Take any colour you want. This is just plain shit transparency.

Fair enough , but my point is that Aero features are still present ( Aero engine itself with DWM) , only that was removed was Aero Glass theme.

Some people got confused with those two Windows features.
