nsane.forums
If you are using an older version of Webroot's antivirus software and are having trouble logging in to your Windows 8 machine, you are not alone as a known issue is locking users out of their machines. Antivirus software packages can be an excellent PC companion to keep your machine safe and free of malware. Unfortunately, sometimes, these software packages can also turn against the user if an improper update is pushed out or if it improperly detects safe files as malicious. If you are using Windows 8 and also have older version Webroot’s antivirus software, it’s imperative that you update to version 8.0.2.79 immediately. As noted on the Microsoft Answer forums, Webroot’s antivirus software prior to the version number mentioned above “mistakenly removes core Windows 8 operating system registry entries required for Microsoft account sign in“. What happens if you don’t update your copy of the software? You won’t be able to login using your Microsoft account on Windows 8. Now, this is obviously not Microsoft’s fault and Webroot is to blame but the frustration appears to artificially stem from Windows 8 which could impact the brands reputation for those who use Webroot’s software and are not aware of this known issue. Here’s the really bad news for Webroot users, if you only have user accounts that are linked to Microsoft accounts, you will need to restore your computer to a point before Webroot’s antivirus was installed. If you only sign into your computer with Microsoft accounts, and they all return the ‘password is incorrect’ error, you will need to reset or restore your computer to a point prior to Webroot being installed in order to sign in to update Webroot. If this is an issue you are currently experience, you can hit the source link below to follow the directions to try and regain access to your machine. Ambrocious
Or maybe it was malicious entries detected and Webroot was simply uninformed that they were suppose to "white list" the spying software which Windows 8 has installed on it by default, courtousy of the United States Government. No one ever looks for the obvious anymore. No one.

Avitar
Webroot was simply uninformed that they were suppose to "white list" the spying software which Windows 8 has installed on it by default, courtesy of the United States Government. Thank you. About time someone figured it out. If you sit down and stare at your firewall's inbound and outbound connections all day, then whois lookup some of the IP addresses, you will find that a lot of data is being uploaded to questionable third parties. What I genuinely don't get is - even with "Live Tiles" disabled, all Auto-Updates turned off for Windows and installed applications, Mail client not-running, Media Streaming and Sharing turned off and all net-facing services temporarily disabled - netstat reports Win8 connecting to God knows how many hundreds of sites and the modem "Data Transfer" light keeps blinking literally all day and cfosspeed shows generous dollops of data being transferred both ways, even though literally, nothing should. :mad2: I'm not really into conspiracy theories nor am I paranoid, but I'd like a plausible explanation for this. Win 7 on my Laptop as well as my primary installation do not do this with many more programs installed. :- I do not have many programs installed thus far in my secondary Win8 installation and the ones I do should not connect to the net without my consent. The following are the only ones I have so far - (with all update checks turned off for the programs themselves and their add-ons and plugins) - Matlab, R, 3DsMax, Vegas, CS6, Office 2013 Pro-Plus, Firefox, Cfosspeed, Process Hacker, Ccleaner, EasyBCD, IDM, VLC MP and StartIsBack - That's it apart from the standard Windows programs like IE, Paint, WMP etc.
dcs18
Hey, I don't know what is wrong with my copy of Windows - there's something really fishy going on, here. :alien:Have installed the latest V6 from COMODO (firewall only) and have been monitoring the same over the past 8 hours and there's no sign of any nocturnal activities - no bi-directional data transfers, no questionable uploads to third party. To think that I've got hardly 80 programs in the system (50 plus of those - homemade.) :wut:In fact no behind-the-scene activity, at all - Christ, this is getting to be so freakishly boring. Somebody help!!! :tehe:
Ambrocious
Im not sure if I mentioned this yet but the next Service Pack of Windos 7 will be pretty much like Windows 8 in the sense that many new open access points will be added in there for the USA government to engage in spying and information compiling. It will be a sort of P2P system developed to collect knowledge and intell which the OS will have installed by default but we aren't meant to "know" about it nor are we suppose to use it (it's probably firmly encrypted). You will find out that I am either true or mostly true and I urge all of you IT professionals to check this and verify. Be careful please.
