Trial version works for 30 days only and then requires serial number.

Registered version works for your lifetime and has a number of additional features: no usage limitations, better utilization of bandwidth, built-in download logic optimizer.

After the purchase you will also get prioritized technical support and the right for FREE upgrade to all new versions of IDM during one year after the registration. Please read here for more information.

That sounds like kick-ass advantage, to me.

Dave had this to say on his site

What is the difference between trial and registered versions?

basically, the trial is meant for testing and the final a.k.a retail is meant for customer use

How or why should a trial that is later registered be different than retail? If it's indeed a case, it's just wrong.

Marik's source. But this is not true. I can still limit bandwidth.

The trial version has some kind of whitelist of serials. So only real purchased ones will work. When you purchase the software for the first time your name&key will not have been included on that list yet. Therefore you are provided with a link to a "retail" version that does not check against such a list. That's why the keygen also only works with the retail setup.

There is only difference is IDMan.exe. Retail one will nag to register on every start while trial one won't. And other difference is licence.txt

I think Dave, in his laziness forgot to update the faq section a bit cause mine also expired yet I am able to get updates as I please.

He even goes to say that the serial is valid till another major upgrade comes along, like v7 for ex yet that line is self-contradictory as he then goes to say that the license when bought is lifetime

so in short, we're gonna be just fine :smoke:

I don't think he's totally contradicting himself. He means to say that you can use IDM for lifetime (as in - the program won't de-activate after one year), but updates will only be available for one year unless you pay to extend your license for a second year ;)

i think v7 will come around and my serial will still be accepted :D

What I do is, I just updated my v6.12 to v6.14 and use the patch and it works!

To others, just update your IDM and use the patch.

Thank you brother... :showoff:
